I also love Kim Hill. I love Adams and Lowe. If they are capable of winning another medal for Team USA in the Olympics, then I would have supported them being at this tournament. Alas, I think that 2018 was a wake up call for the coaches. Several of the Rio vets were not cutting it, so now we are seeing a more willing investment in younger players. It is better that the team loses out on a medal while developing its future, then riding older veterans and achieving the same result.

Who do you think are the 4 players who sit out in the first week?

Who do you think are the 4 players who sit out in the first week? I don’t know but it should be telling as week 1 looks more competitive than a few others.

Week 2/3 are for the players on the cusp of not making/making Tokyo, IMO. These players will be used to rest players, IMO as those two weeks are full of b/c level rosters.

I think it might be the second most competitive week. I cannot decide if week 4 is tougher than week 1. Week 4 has Turkey, Japan and Belgium. Belgium and Canada are probably in the same vein with the former being slightly more seasoned. Both teams are bad at passing so they are the cupcake team of each week compared to the other teams USA will face.

I feel like Kim Hill is gonna get yanked for Plummer. edit: But that’s just me. in what reason? I love this hype over plummer. We are over thinking and expecting too much from her huh. It's good she made it in preparation of larson-hill-mbh retirement. That's what I've been warning everyone. Some folks here think Plummer is the second coming. Whoa, not so fast. She has yet to prove herself in enough matches for the NT. Playing in the Japanese league where she is like twice the height of everyone else (I am exaggerating but you get my point), is not necessarily indicative of how she will perform against other teams. Then folks will say I am "belittling" her. I am not. I think she has promise and potential. I am simply asking everyone to adjust their expectations a little.

Genuine question that just hit me, I was thinking about who the best opposites in the world are (Egonu, Boskovic, Haak etc). Who would y'all rank as the best outsides? Obviously, Zhu Ting is number one but from then on I'm pretty conflicted because you have to take ball control into account too. Interested to hear y'all's thoughts.

I agree long-term investment in new players for the next Olympic cycle can be a sound strategy. But then, that would mean foresaking the chance of getting on the podium for Tokyo. Does Karch really want that? He's not there to coach for the next round but also to get a medal in Tokyo. I suspect Karch will try to balance the two aims. He will still bring some Rio veterans (possibly including Kim Hill) to provide the experience and leadership to get into medal contention as well as newer players to give them experience for the next Olympics.

(not ranking) Ball Control: KRob, C Bosetti, Gabi, Busa, Courtney, Larson, Hill Point Scoring: Mihajlovic, Gray, Zhu, (dare I put SWP here yet?) All Around: KYK, Natalia, Vasileva, Begic, MBH that's off the top of my head. im probably forgetting or overrating someone (or put someone into the wrong category lol) who else? (or who to take off lol)

IMO ZT is clearly the #1 overall but there is no consensus on who the #2 is.
It could be Kelsey, Larson, it could be Sylla, Mihajlovic, ZCN, LYY, etc. There are many many candidates.

The way zhu attack the ball is just amazing. Her technique is unique. Not sure why we can't use that technique?
