I will focus on the matches with the US of course, but I am also curious, which non-US VNL match(es) do you look forward to as well? I'll probably watch most of the teams that sent their top roster if I get to it. I particularly enjoy watching Turkey though. I'll probably get a little more interested in the other teams once China sends their big guns in Week 4.

Oof. The men's rosters just posted and I want to invite you all to enjoy what is going to be a slug fest of a tournament. Most of the big names in the men's game are there, except for Italy, who is sending an inexperienced team. It seems the Italian Federation wants to keep the Olympic rosters on both sides away from this tournament. I still think that is a bad look when you host a tournament. Team USA is going to have to make some adjustments since one of our star OH's, Aaron Russell, is likely out all season with a hip injury. That's a pretty big loss. So the team will likely be trying all sorts of different pin trios in an attempt to find the right one. Interestingly enough, the only position that is a lock is Erik Shoji at libero. It's funny that that definitely isn't the case with the women's team. Anyways, I started a thread over on the men's side (though not nearly as flashy/hip as @avid did for this one 😉) so I invite you all over there during the weekends to help support our boys as they attempt to make the finals in what promises to be a bloodbath of a race for the finals. Whatever happened to Ma’a? Ma'a is working with Gage and Joe Worsley on their Out of System brand this summer. For whatever reason, he's not training with the team right now. Might just be that he had a longshot at the Olympics and wanted to spend some time on Out of System instead.

Specifically: - Yao Di's setting - ZCN (9)/LYH (19)'s attacking - If Karakurt has gotten any kind of consistency or is she still just a 2016 Egonu. - If Turkey has another decent pin hitter other than Karakurt and Meliha
not interested in Italy/Serbia, those players aren't going anywhere near Tokyo (If Boskovic gets subbed out by Bjelica that's already a win and one I'm sure USA/China/Turkey/Italy/Russia would want 100 times out of 100)
Brazil is just one year older, not interested.
Would have been interested in Korea but LDY/LJY got cancelled, probably they will just beat the African team at Tokyo and go home. Shame since with the twins they had a real chance to finish 2nd in Pool A.
I suppose the young 17 year old OH from Russia is also something to look forward to.
NED/POL/GER either are missing players or have dropped in form, doubt they'll be that interesting to watch.
Japan is the usual
So yeah that's the teams I'm gonna be looking at. It turns out to be Pool B at Tokyo minus Italy, but I certainly didn't intend for it to be that way.

Also are the 6 replacement players happening after the 2nd or 3rd week? Never really got that clear...

Serbia media reported their lineup today (the same that FIVB posted but it doesn't include Bjelica, Perovic, Mijatovic, and Kurtagic.
Terzic won't be joining them. They'll be lead by Aleksandar Vladisavljev (Serbia assistant and head coach of Crvena Zvezda)

Over/under how many wins Serbia will get (3)? I'm going with under They are going to absolutely plummet in the world rankings. This could make the World Championships pools VERY interesting. They are guaranteed a qualification since they are the defending champions but they aren't guaranteed a top seed.

My guess would be those 4 players are the replacement players. And since Serbia didn't have a full roster, they just submitted them from the start. (Serbia is bringing 5 total staff)

We could very well see USA be ranked #1 after this tournament going into the Olympics. Depends on how much Jenny is gonna experiment I guess.

If they indeed have Lazović, Lozo, Bjelica, Djordjevic, and Gocanin (I don't recognize any of their middles but they won't be setting them at all with the lack of passing that will be present), then they COULD still win some matches. I guess we'll see who shows up after week 3 if they decide to sub anyone in?

They still lost to everyone other than the two african teams, the dutch, and the argentines.
It doesn't really look like Terzic (or Mazzanti) want to use this tournament for warmup at all, since only 6 players can be subbed in so I'm really doubtful we will see Boskovic/Rasic/Egonu/Sylla (on the Italian side)
