Height can be overrated. Exhibit B: Look at Chloe Chicoine from the U18 national team. She is 5'9" and was one of the best outside hitters for the USA. I thought she outplayed Harper Murray. That’s kind of a dishonest point. For the first 6 matches Chicoine wasn’t really given much of a chance to play, and that also coincided with Stucky being the primary US setter. When the change at setter to Reilly was made, once they fell behind in the quarterfinals, Chicone also got a chance to play and did hit well and bring energy to the court. The problem with your conclusion is that Murray’s 15 kills was a major reason the US escaped the quarterfinals and her serving, passing and serve receive was the best on the US side for most of the tournament. Murray’s hitting for most of the tournament was not great mostly due to the lack of hitable sets she was given. Stucky never seemed to give her a set off the net or a set that wasn’t of a double block. There is no doubt that Chicone infused a large amount of energy for the US team, but it must also be pointed out that she mostly benefitted with the change to Reilly at setter-she was given hittable balls. The US didn’t earn the world championship bronze because of Chicone, the US got the bronze because Stucky was replaced by Reilly at setter. I also think it should be pointed out that I doubt Chicone ever sees any extended time in the front row in college but she may end up being a Kendall White type of back row player. I am glad Chicone was given a chance in the tournament, and I wish Caroline Jurevicius had been given the same chance, but she would have replaced the Texas commit Devin Kahahawai, and Morrison wasn’t going to do that. ✔️🏐 The reception and serving numbers from the event don't reflect what you say about team USA. Murray is a fine player though. Chicoine could play libero but I believe she has been recruited primarily as an OH. Time will tell.

Agree, but the matches I watched Harper played mostly at OPP, not sure if that is a position she has played much. Regardless Harper is a very good hitter. Chicoine is the better defensive player. Did Murray play opposite at all? I thought DK played opposite almost the whole time with CJ used sparingly as the backup. My recollection from the bronze metal game was Murray hit mostly from the right side.

Good idea. I should have asked here, instead of in that thread. Thanks for correcting!

It has been requested in the Nebraska-Rutgers thread to post links for the Nebraska Volleyball Radio Show, press conferences and interviews. I thought I should repost here to make it a little easier to find. I haven't found a place for replays of the radio play-by-play. All of the broadcasts on the Husker Sports Network can be found at: huskers.com/watch/?Archive=6568&type=Archive. The game broadcasts are usually posted the next day.
