In 2004, Stanford and Minnesota had a combined line of 113-31-236 for .347. Last night, Texas and Kentucky had a combined line of 131-31-293 for .341. That's pretty close, and Texas actually took a set off Kentucky, whereas Minnesota got swept relatively handily. Edit: Nnamani had a line of 29-2-48 (.562). Wow! I hadn't really discovered volleyball at this point of my life yet. Nnamani was a BEAST as an attacker.

I said retire, not fired 🤦 [br Wise’s colleagues have retired: Dunning, Shoji, Haley (technically). Rose needs to retire as well. Barzini's dead. So is Phillip Tattaglia, Moe Greene, Stracci, Cuneo

Congratulations to Kentucky. I thoroughly enjoyed this year's final.
My two picks made the Championship match, but I was wrong on the winner. As a Hawaii fan, so happy to be able to cheer on another Iosia. She had a great tournament.

Anyone want to let Holly Rowe know which seniors are leaving for UK or There have been some fun media moments this tournament. My favorite was the Texan reporter asking Sheffield post match to specifically talk about which Texas players are underrated and why. Nothing like a little salt for that wound loll

Anyone want to let Holly Rowe know which seniors are leaving for UK or Well, she said "almost everyone," so I guess that's probably accurate. But yeah, the ones who are leaving are pretty important.

Kentucky exploited one thing Texas gets stereotyped for better than anyone else: defense. However much Texas improved SR and back court defense that old picture developed as Kentucky shook it like a Polaroid picture (ear worm engaged). In addition to matching up exceptionally well, UK WAS able to take advantage of Gabriel’s height and UT’s comparative lack of “scrappiness.” Of course others have tried to use Gabriel’s block to their advantage but often couldn’t capitalize because in most other game aspects Texas would beat them. It became decision whac-a-mole.
UK’s offensive capacity surprised me (but ironically not Madden’s - ITS A JOKE). There had been a lot of commentary here about how this new Texas team played D and could pass better than in previous years (from me as well). I freely admit UT’s ability sent me skipping into a blind arrogance, believing that when combined with UT’s guns there would be just no rational way Kentucky would come out on top. Lesson learned. I do still love to skip though.
What stands out in my minds eye were how crafty some of those Kentucky tips and roll shots were. Texas’ tips on the other hand were not finding the floor as they had in the past - credit to UK being such quick and responsive readers. And at some point later in the match the Texas tips started to feel more panicky, at which point I reminded myself to cut down on my %*$# talk. Then I quickly laughed that off until it settled into a cry. And the short serves from Kentucky caught the passers by surprise like an Ellen practical joke.
Both teams showed up and hit with astounding efficiency, especially in a final - but Kentucky landed more punches and bloodied Texas - foreshadowed perhaps by the ESPN gods that tried to worn me what was about to happen while I screamed at them to switch the programming over to volleyball.
Madden - Congratulations. I still love you.

I agree with you about Rowe's seeming ignorance of the situation.

I really hope Kentucky doesn’t serve Eggleston al night. It doesn’t work that well. She always holds up well enough IMO. I want us to serve Peterson and Iosia Honestly serving Petersen is probably the best game plan. She’s the weakest of the 3 IMO Going into the finals, Petersen had a very slight edge over Iosia in the stats over the course of the season.

I don’t have any access to stats, but it seemed to me that Petersen was passing worse in the tournament (at least until last night). I also think she is the weakest passer out of the two of them although Iosia didn’t have too great a game last night.

Just missed seeing the great Paula Gentil, who was injured in that 3rd set and that was the end for the Gophers.
