25-14 U-M set 3. Michigan up 2-1. As someone said last year in a set when Ashburn did her thing for Wisconsin, it was pretty even, (except for the 11 point serving run from Grant). :-).

Mark's hair is looking crazier and crazier every week. West Virginia/Navy recap followed by a Duke/UNC preview; hoping for crowds at Crisler. Go Blue!

They were up 23-18 in the fourth and couldn't side out the rest of the set. Ended up losing 15-9 in the fifth. Maybe put somebody else in for Mruzik when she has 13 errors? Just a thought.

Some thoughts on Michigan's weekend sweep of EMU, Boston College and Dayton: - Jess Mruzik is quietly establishing herself as the leader of the team, both in the box scores and on the floor. With Paige Jones no longer playing 6 rotations, she is carrying a heavy load and her passing keeps getting better.
- Speaking of Jones, she is doing just fine. Still terminal in the front row and it was good to see her back on the service line in the Dayton match. Murray had several errors filling in as her serving sub and isn't a very consistent option hitting from the back row.
- Lack of depth at DS is hurting Blue when Pertofsky rotates out of the back row. Hallgren was replaced by Beals for the EMU and BC matches, then returned for the Dayton match. Both were targeted successfully throughout the weekend. There just are not any other options on this team in that spot. I'm leaning in Team Hallgren's direction, her maturity matters and I think she will improve as she gets accustomed to the indoor game.
- It's great to see the markedly improved blocking game. Much of that credit goes to freshman Jacque Boney who has established a strong presence on the net and is making her teammates around her better. She's still learning her way around the offense, but her defense is already paying dividends.
- I can't recall the coaching staff working on a player so intently as they have Scottee Johnson. Side huddles, on-on-ones, between point sideline consults; they are coaching her up! Her connection with Jones is still a work in progress but she seems to have found the happy place with Mruzik and Pertofsky. She is still struggling with set location and decision making and the coaches are letting their displeasure known when that happens. To her credit, she seems unflappable. I still consider her a freshman, so continued improvement is expected.
- It was great to see the bench seniors see some play time at the end of the EMU match. Sadilek, Liu, Persson (1K and 1 BA!), and Malinowski rarely see the floor and this might have been their last turn with the B1G season starting.
Tough opener at Minnesota on Friday followed by a Maize Out at Crisler on Sunday against MSU. Go Blue!
