A sweaty Mark Rosen checks in with an update from Week 2 of practice. He identifies the "Core 5 leaders" that I think we can expect to start, no surprises there: Jones, Mruzik, Pertofsky, Robinson and Grant with a lean towards Johnson at setter. The Maize and Blue scrimmage is Saturday at 1:00 pm at Crisler; this is not getting heavily promoted so I suspect they want to keep the numbers down. Go Blue! |

Petrofsky should be the other pin. Murray is very good bit if michigan is going to do anything those three need to ball out. |

If she can pass from the back row then she will definitely see the floor. We should get a hint as at how everyone looks on Saturday. |

After 20 long months, it was nice to see live volleyball again today! Notes from today's Maize/Blue scrimmage:
- The A team was wearing Maize and I think its pretty safe to say who the starters are going to be: Jones/Mruzik at OH, Robinson/Boney at MB, Pertofsky at OPP, Grant at L with Johnson setting
- The offense is very much a work in progress especially with timing on the middle attacks, but it is still very early
- Of the three freshmen, Boney obviously is the star of the class. She showed good instincts on defense and was able to terminate when a decent set came her way. Chopra can block but struggled to put the ball down; Cuchran had a tough debut at DS.
- Hallgren was truly used as a utility player getting reps at DS, OH and setter. She's going to be an asset to the team this season with her experience and ability to play anywhere on the court. I was especially intrigued in the few reps she got at setter
- Outside of Grant, the DS/L corps looked rough. This position continues to be a depth problem for Blue; Jones and Mruzik will both need to carry a load when they are in back row
- Jones appears to be in good form and her passing looked better today than what we saw in the spring. That quick arm is such a weapon and she rattled off several runs from the service line with her jump serve.
- I'm still not sold on our setter situation. Johnson has the pedigree and is the most offensive minded of the bunch but her connections with the hitters are still a little off. Hoping this improves with more practice and playing consistency than we had in the spring
- No new Taraflex floor yet but it was nice to be inside air conditioned Crisler on this hot, muggy day
