Time for the Rosen’s to move along. A school like Michigan should be able to have a top 20 team every year. Your assuming the athletic department even cares about the volleyball program. They can’t produce a stream and they play their home matches in a 65 year old pool. It’s not all on the coaching staff.

They are going for their first league football title since 2004 tomorrow, in the sport which defines their athletic department. Rosen has not come close to winning maybe the toughest league in the country in volleyball, but he does have a Final 4 appearance since then and is usually in the NCAA tournament. Not a facilities person, but almost all the other teams in the league have a devoted facility which seats more than Michigan's does.

The Rosen's have developed a very consistent, high quality program over the course of their 23 seasons. They have only missed the tournament 3 times over those years (I'm not counting the COVID season). But I do wonder how much longer they want to go. Their youngest graduates high school in the spring and it has to be frustrating always losing the battle for court time at Crisler.
The school and Ann Arbor are a great sell to recruits; but it's getting harder and harder to overlook the home gym when most of your B1G neighbors have passed you by. I'm not sure what their timeline is on retirement but I do hope that whoever follows them has a new facility and a professional stream production available at a bare minimum. Otherwise, the program will decline.

Otherwise, the program will decline. Ding ding ding. . . Of course Michigan should be a top 20 program every year, but the volleyball program is not being given top 20 support from Michigan’s administration. Their main match gym is a 3 sided cracker box with a wooden floor. Then they get to play several (3-6) matches in the bigger area Crisler each year. They did finally get a teraflex court for their Crisler matches this fall, but they practice/train in the cracker box’s wood floor that is not something that is physically good for the player’s legs…as opposed to if they were able to play and train on teraflex full time. How can this be good or enticing to recruits? Especially when these recruits see the facilities that exist or are are being improved all over the country in general and specifically at most B1G schools. I find it astounding Rosen is able to field as competitive a team as he does and continue to qualify for the tournament as often as they do-given their lack of quality volleyball facilities. So, yes, Michigan should be a top 20 volleyball team every year, but Michigan has to provide top 20 institutional support for its volleyball program-I don’t see how it can be argued that is happening now. . . But hey, maybe their football team isn’t making enough money?

Do any of you know if Ali Bastianelli will be back next season to volunteer coaching? Not really certain, those volunteer assistants usually only last a year or two at most as they work on their graduate degrees. It would be nice if she could get paid; she was a huge asset to Blue in the gym and on the bench this year. Her work with our middles really paid off; especially with freshman Jacque Boney. You can tell she has respect from the team and I think she could be a really good coach if that's a direction she is interested in after her playing days are over. In the meantime, she's running clinics at her old club this month as she preps for the AU season.

Is Jones the only senior that might be back? She gone... oh no! Paige Jones is gone! My favorite big ten player of the last 4 years. Hopefully she ends up playing another year somewhere
