Nicknames are definitely a big part of sports at any level. I could see if it was distasteful but it’s not. My current favorite nickname going is for MSU's Sarah Franklin who is known by her teammates as "Frank the Tank". C'mon, Badger fans, nobody's going to correct this? Frank Kaminsky is the only true "Frank the Tank"!!

I don’t use Minny or Wiscy out of disrespect; I usually use it out of efficiency, especially in game threads. Trying to type on your phone and watch at the same time can be challenging and those few less letters help.

Also, I always think of spotty ginger brit guys when I hear the name Roddy. I'm not sure why. And Roddy can appear a bit ruddy, if his volleyball team is not playing well....

It'll piss off people in Seattle that way, too....

I know I am being unreasonable with the nicknames. I guess it irritates me most when they are used for professional athletes. Announcers, etc... do it in an effort to sound colorful. It seems very forced. Lets call a libero a libero, not a "bro". Okay I feel you there badgerbill. I can’t STAND the term bro for libero. 🤮🤮🤮

I think Iowa and Missouri (mostly football fans) use Nebby a lot, at least that's where I've heard it. Edit: what is the proper way to break Wisconsin up? Wis-con-sin or wi-scon-sin keep the Scon together for sure. I despise hearing commentators say “Wis-consin”. Wisconsin was originally spelled “Ouisconsin”, having origins from both French and Algonquian languages. The “Oui” is the French part, so that syllable should be recognizable from the scon syllable. “Sconnies” is also a nickname for Wisconsinites if that helps. (Credibility: I’m from Wisconsin)

Sarah Franklin won a Freshman of the Week award this season, is on the All Big Ten team and listed as a sophomore, but was not chosen for the All-Freshman team. 🤔

In a sport with 7 starters for each team, a 19 player first team seems extremely excessive. Should be between 7-10 Max in my opinion.

Ratio ends up being about the same of total players to awardees, except there’s distinguishing between tiers. Not sure if there’s position requirements. Could be interesting to do that with volleyball. Suppose then you have to ask whether you list the 7 best players or best at each position. Only one BIG OH was arguably amongst the 7 best conference players this year.

I'm not going to stop calling her WhitLo. Mostly because I can't spell Lauenstien. I liked the post game presser with her and Nicklin a few matches back; Nicklin made some remark about saying during the match they needed to get Big Hit Whit cranked up.

Speaking of nicknames, please retire "Whisky" "Wiscy" etc. WI is shorter... use it. Ban Minny as well. Nobody says Nebby, so knock it off with the others. I'm good with that. I tend to use Cheese Weasels and Nuts anyway. (hat tip to rampageripster)
