Officially banning the nicknames Sheff, Izzy, Syd, Dev, and Donna for Badger fans then I don't mind nicknames but I like them unambiguous. Sheff is obvious. There is no other and also I hate typing "ield." I hate typing generally. It's not good for anyone if I type more. Izzy is the name she goes by - it's how she is listed on the roster - but I use Ashburn in general B1G threads, because there are lots of Izzys in the world. I usually refer to Hilley by her last name, because we have another Sydney these days. Sydney's are all over the place as well! And that's the problem. I actually had no idea who the Roddy referred to at first. Is that for Rodriguez? I can understand why you avoid Lexi - but in a general B1G thread best to stay away from ambiguous nicknames. My post was tongue in cheek--I have zero problems with using nicknames if it isn't too hard to figure out who the player/coach is. Based on her mention in this thread, it wasn't hard to figure out who Roddy was considering the context in which she was brought up (mentioned alongside CC McGraw as a DPOY candidate, and mentioned in FOY talks). Plus, as you noted, Nebraska has multiple Lexi's, both of whom get brought up frequently.

Can’t believe Blossom didn’t make any team she was SOTW like every other week?

Can’t believe Blossom didn’t make any team she was SOTW like every other week? the conference has disrespected blossom forever. Even the announcers never mention her when talking about the best setters

I know I am being unreasonable with the nicknames. I guess it irritates me most when they are used for professional athletes. Announcers, etc... do it in an effort to sound colorful. It seems very forced. Lets call a libero a libero, not a "bro".

Lets call a libero a libero, not a "bro". But then we have to have a discussion (yet never a final resolution) on how you pronounce the word.

Speaking of nicknames, please retire "Whisky" "Wiscy" etc. WI is shorter... use it. Ban Minny as well. Nobody says Nebby, so knock it off with the others.

I literally can't count the number of Rodriguez's I've known in my life, and I can't remember a single one that went by Roddy. That's what threw me. Normally it would be J-Rod or A-Rod or some such. L-Rod or Rodri, I would have gotten immediately. Also, I always think of spotty ginger brit guys when I hear the name Roddy. I'm not sure why.

When I think of Roddy...my mind goes immediately to Rowdy Roddy Piper. However, he was never B1G Defensive Player of the Year.
I am getting more and more comfortable with the idea of having Lexi Rodriguez wearing the scarlet and cream for three more years...

The prevalence of Minny on here has always intrigued me because I’ve never met a Minnesotan that says it—though I’m sure there are some out there. I don’t care enough either way and figure it’s just internet shorthand.
Also, I like ducks. Raised an orphaned one in my youth.
I like the Ducks too. Have not raised one of those though.
(Wow you can tell we all can’t wait for matches to start tomorrow.)

But how about Nebulous?

I think Iowa and Missouri (mostly football fans) use Nebby a lot, at least that's where I've heard it.
Edit: what is the proper way to break Wisconsin up? Wis-con-sin or wi-scon-sin

I use Minny because it reminds me of the mouses that my cat catches and plays with mercilessly. Also it is a lot shorter than Minnemesottawottaminee, or however you spell it. Also, unlike MN, it has vowels, and unlike UM it can't be confused with the other bigger mustelids that we don't mention. I refuse to use the simple U for obvious reasons.
I use Wiscy because they make me drink sometimes (in a good way) and also I kinda sorta like whiskey, or the idea of it. Good vibes! WI sounds like a kid on the swings right before they fly off and land face first into a car windshield. Not so good vibes!
But that's just me.
