why? Hampton is a way better passer than Otec and Hampton is also a stellar defender. So underrated on here. Otec is overrated too. Hampton is not underrated on here nor is Otec overrated as neither have been discussed as much as quite a few other B1G liberos. By the way, there are so many ways for you to uplift and highlight great players without having to tear down another player. It's real easy: "Hampton is a great passer and defender. I think what she does isn't discussed enough. She's done a great job in her first year as Penn State's libero." Otec is a great player especially defensively. She also has a cannon for an arm that she didn’t get to use in college. She went to high school in my area and I saw her play club a bunch her senior year. She’s also a very kind person from what I’ve heard through mutual friends. I have nothing against her but yes she was overrated on this board. Idk what you mean she hasn’t been talked about much on this board. She certainly has been. Me saying she was overrated isn’t really tearing it down. She’s still very good but I saw claims of her being the best libero in the country or in the big ten and I just do not think that’s true. |

You didn't say in your original post that Otec was good defensively. That she did her job in the role Purdue needed her for. That you would've loved to see her get a shot at playing OH. You called her overrated. Full stop. If you can't name more than one poster who said she was the best libero in the country, then Otec isn't overrated. Hell that makes her barely rated. If she was talked about often this past season, it's because Purdue was one of the few teams that barely missed any matches (just the 2 MSU games), so the sample size for what Otec was doing to make Purdue a Top 10 team (something you very vocally said they were undeserving of during the OSU matches, so excuse me if it doesn't seem as though you're coming from a genuine place) is much greater than that of the other liberos in the B1G. |

Just posting to get this one on my "Participated" list. Been really enjoying this thread the past couple years, especially as an off-season go-to. Not surprising coming from a Big Ten homer!

Without a clear focus, the perceived emphasis of such comments naturally shifts from the commenters and the comments to the player herself, and it seems like an attack on them. And sometimes it most certainly is. One particularly pernicious way that toxic personalities bring other people down is by implying that the plaudits they get are insincere or based on ignorance, and are therefore not justified. It can be a truly destructive ploy. That's why it's good to avoid this formulation. Luckily for Otec, none of this likely matters. The B1G coaches publically gave her DPOY in the B1G. I doubt she is rated any more highly "on here" than that. The onus is on you to argue why they got that wrong despite having no conflicts of interest. |

I got around to linking the official press releases for every team's 2021 recruiting class in OP. Some decent background info in those, including recruit rankings you can get for no money at all. Two schools don't appear to have a press release: Penn State and Michigan. Michigan would not accept this slander and posted this TODAY. |
