I'm not sure if this was addressed but I was baffled by the comment. I think Jazz Sweet, Lexi Sun, Keonilei Akana, Kayla Caffey, and Kenzie Knuckles would be too. I'm sure you realize we aren't talking about Asians and Pacific Islanders here. Of the three blacks you mentioned, only Sweet was a significant contributor and she got a DUI -- not exactly enhancing the image of UNL Volleyball. People with this ugly mindset still exist? I hate it here

http://instagr.am/p/CPGEhUgLyV7 Per umichvball Instagram: Haley Hallgren is transferring in as a grad student after a beach career at USC. Have we seen many players go Beach->Indoor in their collegiate careers? Only one I remember is Kraft going from Pepperdine to Wisconsin. Should be interesting to see what Hallgrens roll on the team is going to be as I don't see her unseating Mruzik or Jones. I'd assume she is going to have a similar role to Kraft's.

I come on to VT this morning to see a number of pages added to the Big 10 thread and here I thought I was going to be treated to something exciting about Rettke or Samedy, or Wisconsin poaching more players and circumventing the transfer rules. But instead I see posts about how asians don't count as diversity and that affirmative action is racist....slow Thursday, I guess.

Even though I don’t agree with the approach. Where was it said Asians don’t count in diversity. But I know. It’s wasn’t actually said but it’s what they were thinking. We live in a world of mind readers. Again. I don’t agree with the approach but adding stuff that wasn’t said to try and divert it Into a specific narrative is wrong. No where did anyone say Asians don’t count in diversity. Come on now

That just shows you don't know what the word means. Argue whether affirmative action is/was fair or effective if you want, but it was not racist. And yes hiring someone based on race and not merit is racist. Actually I would guess that the action you described is ,at its worst, more discrimination than racist and at its best meant to be inclusionary. That being said, merely hiring people of a certain group in order to meet a specific quota is not the intent of affirmative action. We have to be honest about WHY affirmative action was started / needed in the first place and acknowledge THAT before we can move on to whether it has served its purpose or not. Maybe we need to start a DIVERSITY thread on off the net as to not completely derail this thread.

I said that a few pages ago the. It got back to volleyball then today it’s back to this stuff again. I can argue the same for most of the stuff people claim as racism on this thread

Last thing (hopefully) Boof...
As you may have realized this started when someone asked if Indiana couldn't get any players of color on their squad. They didn't say "African Americans", they didn't say "a bunch of black players" like someone else said, they mentioned POC which allows for a wide, beautiful spectrum of possibilities.
OKAY... so far it's looking like PSU has done the best spring cleaning and renovation going into the fall season.

Please stop engaging with racist posters, racism deniers, or other dangerous people; their posts do not need to be legitimized with a response. Just report them to the mods.

OKAY... so far it's looking like PSU has done the best spring cleaning and renovation going into the fall season. And on that topic, I finally listened to the volleyballmagazine interview with Coaches Skinner and Elliott, and Lee F. asked the about the transfer portal and how it's changing recruiting, etc.
Skinner cautioned him about why the athlete wants to transfer...and in whose interest transferring might really be. But PSU is collecting graduate transfers with extra eligibility, right?
Can Russ Rose really cobble together a National Championship team (as some are claiming) for fall season by imposing "instant" chemistry on a group in which some key parts haven't played together yet? And if so, is this just the way it's going to be in future for the B1G?
[UPDATE: Lee just posted another recruiting interview w/4 coaches...maybe part of my answer is there.]

I think you can maybe do that in Basketball (get a bunch of BLUE CHIP 1st years and win a championship) but I don't know about Volleyball. I think team chemistry plays a far greater role.

He would have to cobble together the RIGHT combination of personalities that can come together in a very short time. I think you can maybe do that in Basketball (get a bunch of BLUE CHIP 1st years and win a championship) but I don't know about Volleyball. I think team chemistry plays a far greater role. Why? I perceive Volleyball as a team sport where all of the parts make up the whole. There may have been teams where the women all hated each other off the court but put it together on the court but I would be surprised to find that out. In Basketball you can far more rely on one star player to carry a team. The team chemistry means less (IMO) for that reason. When it comes to the scenario we created, having a bunch of great players come together in a short amount of time, there's a greater need for chemistry to bond a team. Actually I'm going to correct myself a little bit... The year the Detroit Pistons beat the Lakers, the Pistons were a team and the Lakers were a collection of stars (Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone, Gary Payton I think, and others) The Piston's team chemistry prevailed.
