So with Dana coming back will she feel the season a disappointment if they fail to win a Natty? She is a competitor, so yes. But, it's not like she thinks a Natty is a guarantee. And, without the Natty, I am guessing she would tell you that she would make the same choice all over again. Winning a Natty or not winning a Natty is not the sole determinant of a good decision

What would Wisconsin’s line-up look like without a platoon of returning seniors? Would they compete to win in the Big Ten?

What would Wisconsin’s line-up look like without a platoon of returning seniors? Would they compete to win in the Big Ten? Talented, but pretty green. Probably not a B1G contender. Once again, you would have tremendous strength at middle. I think the opposite would turn out to be really good. But, no idea how well that team would pass. And, trading a 1st Team AA 5th year setter for a freshman is always tough. My guess would be: S: MJ Hammill MB: Danielle Hart MB: Devyn Robinson OH: Jade Demps OH: Lauren Jardine or Liz Gregorski Opp: Julia Orzol L: Not sure. Candidates would include: Anna MacDonald, Joslyn Boyer and Sydney Reed.

What would Wisconsin’s line-up look like without a platoon of returning seniors? Would they compete to win in the Big Ten? If all of the Covid Year people didn't return (Haggerty, Loberg, Rettke, Barnes, Civita, Hilley, and Shanahan), we begin to look very talented and incredibly young. My best guess would look something like... OH - Demps OH - Orzol or Jardine MB - Robinson MB - Hart Opp - Smrek or Orzol S - Hammill L - ? I haven't seen enough of MacDonald or Reed. Ashburn could be here in a pinch. The scrimmage stream had her lined up at libero and she didn't look bad. Certainly not the nose for the ball like trained liberos, but reasonable passing. I think a B1G title is a bridge too far for that line-up, but they would certainly be solid and possibly play spoiler to some of the other teams. But beyond talent, what this line-up seems to lack is the vocal floor leader. Not to say that none of them could step into the role, but no one here is obvious to me as the one that rallies the troops or stays the ship.

Forgot that Boyer is coming in. Still a big question mark at L. NCAA ruling is a Godsend for the Badgers. Did you see where PSU's 2021 OH's came from?

Hmmm. I don't know. B1G champions often have 2-3 losses. In a 20 match season, 3 losses is just a little less that 1 loss in 6, and the competition is frankly better on average in the NCAA. I mean, UW has beaten Marquette, Iowa St, Green Bay, Pepperdine, Illinois State, Weber State and UCLA over the last few years in subregionals, and I think many of those teams would have won more often than not against a lot of lower tier B1G squads in the same year.

Is it, though? A contender for the Big Ten title is going to have to play five or six teams that can beat them in conference. That same contender should cruise through the first three rounds of the NCAAs, and maybe the fourth depending on draw. Your top Big Ten teams aren't going to face Big Ten-like competition in the tourney until the Elite 8, maybe the Sweet 16.

A top big ten team would have played no less than 12 matches vs better teams than they would see in first two rounds.

I have never seen Smrek in a match. She looks like a hell of a good prospect. I just assume she is a bit raw. Even so, she would have to be awfully damn good right out of the gate to start in front of Hart or Robinson at middle. And, I would think it would be hard to beat out Orzol on the right side, who has seemingly played that position a lot in her young career and looks like she is really, really good.
Izzy is possible. But, I also feel like Hammill was always expected to be the setter post-Hilley and is the better prospect. Izzy is a great backup setter and great server. It was Hammill they used against Minnesota this year when Hilley was out with COVID.
