So, what does everyone think about Big Ten standings after the first weekend of play? I think it’s pretty clear that Wisconsin is on a level of their own. Nebraska is probably second but who knows, they didn’t play any real competition and are without Stivrins and Hames. Ohio State looked really really good. Purdue struggled a bit, same with Penn State (although they came back with a vengeance after that loss). Minnesota looked about how I expected them to look. Michigan/MSU/Rutgers/NU/Indiana/Maryland all won but didn’t really play very good competition. Illini probably struggled more than they should have. Iowa did not look good. I think there are 4-5 categories I would rate teams in right now. 1. Wisconsin, maybe Ohio State? 2. Nebraska/Minnesota 3. Penn State/Purdue 4. Illini/Michigan 5. Michigan, MSU, Rutgers, NU, Indiana, Maryland, Iowa Thoughts? To be clear I did not watch every game, especially the lower teams, just going off stats/opponents. Is Michigan at 4 or at 5? They had two very solid wins (against better competition than Illinois and arguably Purdue) and deserve better in my book.

But I could see sliding them up into the Penn State/Purdue category also.

This may not be the year, but I think Ohio State has acquired a championship coach who will build a consistent winner.

I completely agree, and players like Murr, Podraza, Rader and all dog are only going to get better in the next couple years.

Michigan looks GREAT. When they were on this weekend they were clinical. I would NOT want to see them on my schedule

Interesting What are your thoughts if you had to group all teams in to a few categories? I didn’t watch every game this weekend yet.

ILL looked rough in their first match. 2nd & 3rd matches were much better. Our serving will be a problem for some teams. We hit more slides for kills in one of the matches then we did all of last year. R Terry will be all Big Ten this year. She was robbed on all frosh team last year.

You might be giving Washington too much credit. I did not see the stream of the match but I heard it was not a great performance.
