Have any of you attended games in multiple Big Ten arenas? If so, how do you rank them? 1. Nebraska best atmosphere 2. Penn State close 2nd 3. Ohio State, brand new digs 4. Purdue. Student section is awesome. 5. Indiana. New and high tech 6. Maryland. Modern with solid acoustics. 7. Minnesota. Get some air conditioning. 8. Iowa. Have they gotten a new facility? It felt like a hundred and twenty degrees in there. Never been to Illinois, Wisconsin, NW, Michigan, Michigan St, Rutgers.

Have any of you attended games in multiple Big Ten arenas? If so, how do you rank them? I've seen matches at every B1G school except Nebraska. Here's my ranking: 1. The Pav. Great atmosphere, and I have great seats. 2. Huff Hall. It's intimate, and the student section is top notch. 3. Rec Hall. Great place to see a match, and State College is nice. It's just a pain to get to. 4. Wisconsin Field House. Great atmosphere, mostly knowledgeable fans, but the seats are a long way from the court on the end. 5. College Avenue Gym. Only because it's free and if you get there early, you can sit on the baseline. Absolutely no atmosphere. 6. Holloway Gym. For the atmosphere and student section only. The gym itself is pretty blah. 7. (tie) Covelli Center, Wilkinson Hall, Xtream Arena. (Ok, I haven't actually been to Wilkinson or Xtream yet, but they all look the same to me. Covelli Center seems like it's going to be too small if Ohio State is going to be good.) They seem pretty utilitarian to me. 10. Crisler Center. It's a big arena with a fairly small crowd. I haven't been to Cliff Keen. 11. Welsh-Ryan Arena. I haven't been there since they remodeled. Maybe it's better than a high school gym now. 12. Jenison Field House. It's a dump, sorry. 13. Xfinity Center Pavilion. This is the worst, and it's not close. The gym itself is very much like those at Purdue, Ohio State, Indiana and Iowa, but the earsplitting music is horrible. Maryland fans don't even bother to cheer because the second each play ends, the sound system comes on full blast. A terrible, terrible place to watch volleyball because of the painful volume. I'm guessing Devaney would be pretty high up on my rankings if I get there. For non B1G venues, Gregory Gym is hard to beat. Maples is ok, too, although I've never been there when there were students on campus.

I will be coming again this year as well.

Have any of you attended games in multiple Big Ten arenas? If so, how do you rank them? Nebraska has a spectacular venue, with lots of bells and whistles. That’s all nice and I’m super happy to have such a nice facility, but atmosphere is more important to me. When it’s a “big game” it gets the kind of loud that if you didn’t know it was crowd noise, you couldn’t identify what it was. But there’s more to atmosphere even than just being loud. It’s just asinine they have the students in three different locations. And while it does little to impact my game time experience, it’s equally as ridiculous to seat the friends and family from the opposing team one step below SRO. Speaking of atmosphere, which is more important to me, Huff Hall in Champaign is in a league of it’s own. This is due in large part the one of the best student sections I’ve ever seen in any sport. The venue itself is in a building I’d never have guessed had a gym. It’s old and HOT, but has lots of character and again, a world class student section. Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena is very nice after a remodel but it still feels like a high school gym. But, there’s a FABULOUS Jamaican restaurant near that makes up for it. Like Huff Hall, The Pavilion in Minneapolis is old but has tons of character and a cool vibe. Have met a couple VTers there and that was cool. Had one exuberant Gopher fan absolutely SCREAM at me, “HAVE A LITTLE CLASS!!!” After I had yelled “Sideout Huskers” a few times when the Gopher’s were serving. That was cool. My first match in Minneapolis was actually at Williams Arena which similar in character but larger with a raised floor. I hope to visit at least one new arena this year; maybe the PSU/Rutgers trip. 1, Huff Hall. 2, Devaney. 3, The Pavilion and Williams Arena. 4. Welsh-Ryan Arena. If Nebraska gets the students together so they can organize and if they could get someone to run the music that has just the slightest clue as to what they were doing, they could possibly unseat Huff Hall at #1. Those are a couple of big ifs! Oh yes. I don’t recall what it was called but whatever it is, the place Kansas St. plays is a dump!

I have been to, by order of appearances:
1. MN Pav 2. WI Field House 3. NE Devaney 4. PSU Rec Hall 5. IA Carver Hawkeye 6. MN Williams Arena 7. OSU Saint John's 8. Purdue, for regionals, but at the moment can't recall which arena and if it's their regular one.
I liked them all, not going to rank them at the moment, may later upon more thought. I did like St. John's even though it seemed a lot of others didn't. I like old buildings I guess. I also liked Carver, even though yes it was sparsely filled, but I could imagine walking down into the bowl for a basketball game (which I might have to do sometime). Also, walking the concourse and seeing the wrestling tributes was impressive. Rec hall had an odd feel, seems like a gym rather than an arena but still seats a lot. Devaney is nice, I guess, but I had a pre-judgement I guess knowing where the parents of MN and WI players I was coming to see where likely sitting. Mostly fruitless trips there except the one year (2015) where MN and WI both won. Still meaning to get to the Michigans sometime. I miss the days when MN/WI were perfect travel partners, that made it easy to double up.

Rutgers are playing in Piscataway this year? Damn. Inconvenient. That's a long walk from the train station in New Brunswick.

1. Nebraska 2. Minnesota 3. Wisconsin 4. Maryland 5. Wisconsin - Hot. Good atmosphere. Need more students. I was surprised by that when we went to a game there. I thought there would be more of a student presence.

Speaking of atmosphere, which is more important to me, Huff Hall in Champaign is in a league of it’s own. This is due in large part the one of the best student sections I’ve ever seen in any sport. I've heard this from a lot of people. Illinois has something called Block "I", which is similar to the tOSU equivalent Block "O" that is an organization that oversees student sections. So it' super organized and there is leadership, time, and resources dumped into it by someone who isn't athletics. But I have been to Huff Hall and it is DEAD. Like totally dead. Nothing. I think it's rather opponent specific (no duh they showed up in force when Nebraska rolled into town). When the students are there, they rock it. But I've rolled in with a bottom-of-the-barrel team and it was really pretty dead. I give more credit to the sections that show up game after game regardless of opponent. Purdue was one I noticed that from... same with Nebraska. But a lot of places are like Illinois, totally dependent on the quality of the team on the other side of the court.
