The Athletic Dept at Illinois has been trying to put together financing to replace Huff with a facility designed primarily for hockey and sticking volleyball, wrestling and gymnastics in with hockey to justify the build. Volleyball in a hockey rink simply does not work for the fans. Illinois would lose the noise and excitement. Most places where floors are put on top of ice have problems with the playing surface. While Huff needs to be replaced with a facility that has air conditioning and better sight lines for volleyball,, putting volleyball in a hockey rink would be a terrible disservice to the volleyball program. But they need to do something. The "charm" of Huff only gets you so far. Not to mention the parking situation is bad.

Not anywhere near as bad as Oklahoma’s student section. People in Oklahoma know what a volleyball is??
I thought it was football, football, football, and that orange, round, bouncy thing.
Friggin' Okla State is one of the few P5 schools that won't even add women's volleyball. Disgraceful

I agree that something needs to be done at Illinois, just not a downtown off campus hockey rink. This is true not only at Illinois as evidenced by some the comments in this thread. For example, building an Olympic sports facility near the other new and newer facilities to the east of SFC is an option that makes other athletic related parking available. Illini volleyball deserves something better than an ill-suited afterthought. Make it 5000 seats and it could also becomethe home of women’s basketball. Women’s sports deserve something other than crumbs from men’s sports teams, a problem that is the case at more than just Illinois. I say this as a 70+ year old male. Get off my lawn.

Tamas won’t be around to see a new facility in Champaign. No way that happens anytime soon. Huff it is.

Michigan hammered by West Virginia this afternoon in straight sets. I blame @madden54 for getting me so hyped up on Blue.

Northwestern and New Mexico State are going 5. Shane Davis should have been fired months ago. What a joke of a coach.

They are playing to win. He has so much talent and simply doesn't know how to coach and get them to believe they can win. It's time for the pretty boy to move along. Bonkers how that university can have such high quality coaches in some areas and have had a lineage of horrendous head coaches for the last 25 years.

WV used to be rather mediocre. Have they flipped the script?

I've been saying it for quite some time, parity is happening and spreading everywhere. Lots of talent being distributed across the country. We're going to see more and more surprise results. They're upsets only with respect to prior reputations, not current talent objectively evaluated.
