Haven't we been saying this for like 13 years now? Larson makes everyone around her better. I like to reiterate it as much as possible. So many posters think she expired years ago.

Yeah, Canada sucked. They actually can play better but they have had 3 weeks together and a whole new squad of young players who many have never played together ( and a new coach).
They do need Alexa ( they are a different team with at least one more decent player) and any player who can pass! They will improve as the tournament goes on however, and this will be valuable experience for them.

The whole relegation thing sucks bc if you aren’t a team from Europe, you’re pretty much gonna have a hard time developing and improving without playing good competition.

As a Canadian fan, I want Gray hitting. Obviously there’s a good reason she’s not starting (probably a past injury or something) but when Van Ryk is the only hitter scoring and Winzer decides to pull her, there is literally no one to score for the team. It just makes a real boring watch tbh 🙃 Sorry, but I have to disagree…Van Ryk is not the only player who can hit. There are players who can score. Cross and especially Maglio are hugely offensive threats on their Turkish teams. Mitrovic and even Howe can put the ball down. But I do agree we need Gray. Van Ryk can bang a ball for sure, but she makes her share of errors. Her being the only hitter for the team is not the answer. Unfortunately, King made it look like Canada only had one player (but, I have to say is normally a big improvement in the setting from 2019). Yesterday she forced balls to her and other players (who were scoring) were open. I like King a lot but this isn’t AU and she needs to raise her level and distribute the ball more wisely. She has nice hands but I haven’t been overly impressed. I’d take some of Carlini’s sets over hers today in a heartbeat.

And, Canada’s budget for women’s volleyball is almost non-existent compared to other teams.

The canadian coach kinda looked like Tori ngl I was afraid to say that I said earlier that Winzer reminded me of Ah Mow, and that makes sense because Tori also reminds me of Ah Mow.

Yesterday she forced balls to her and other players (who were scoring) were open. I like King a lot but this isn’t AU and she needs to raise her level and distribute the ball more wisely. She has nice hands but I haven’t been overly impressed. I’d take some of Carlini’s sets over hers today in a heartbeat. to be fair, I didn’t say Van Ryk was the only player who can hit. I said she was the only one scoring. Taking her out just put the others in tough situations because there wasn’t a player to relieve pressure from the rest of them. Having Gray would significantly help the other players score as well. Having both Gray and Van Ryk would undoubtedly make the rest of the team perform better too offensively. King has shown good stretches of setting but also some poor stretches. Some of her sets to Maglio today didn’t allow Maglio to get full swings. All of that being said, I definitely want King to stay in. She is probably the only Canadian setter who looks good when she’s on her game. Altogether, I’m just a little frustrated with the level of play. I know they can play much better than what they’d shown in sets 2-4 yesterday and sets 2 and 3 today.

The VNL seems to basically just be a way to ensure the teams with money stay at the top 🤷🏻♂️ Like if the VNL had other groups like the Grand Prix had it would be better for the lower level teams. Or even if the challenger cup was something that was longer than just one weekend

USA Stats:
Plummer: 8k, 4e, 25 att. (.160); 1 blk; 2 aces; 3 digs SWP: 8k, 2e, 23 att. (.261); 3 blk; 2 digs Drews: 19k, 4e, 37 att. (.405); 1 blk; 1 ace; 4 digs Dixon: 5k, 11 att. (.455); 2 blk; 1 dig Tapp: 6k, 10 att. (.600); 1 blk; Carlini: 2k, 3 att. (.667); 2 blk; 2 aces; 1 dig JWO: 17 digs
Reception: Plummer: 11 successful, 23 so-so, 34 attempts (32.5%) SWP: 4 successful, 2 so-so, 6 attempts (66.7%) JWO: 3 successful, 3 so-so, 6 attempts (50%)
From the FIVB site, so the stats usually require a grain of salt/maybe I'm misinterpreting something. Also, they really went after Plummer in serve reception (as they should).
