Why is NBC interviewing Felix again? Oh, in one of the first couple of days, they also had a bit where Felix was giving speech to her daughter or reciting a poem or something. NBC is obsessed with her. Since she made the team in the 400, I imagine we'll have a lot more of this in store once the Olympics actually start. You know they will. Wasn't she planning on just running the 200m? Would've been awkward to not make it

Would've been awkward to not make it She switched to focusing on the 400 last quad even. She's been a great runner, but the relay medals really inflate her total. I feel bad for field eventers or distance runners (or anyone in any sport besides track & swimming) because the lack of hardware makes them much less marketable.

No world record for Holloway, but he still wins the 110 hurdles easily.

bae is going to the Olympics! Terrible start but he made it into 2nd for the 100 hurdles. Not sure if he can medal though; gotta get out of the blocks and over the first hurdle faster.
Holloway looks gold-ready though.

Before I forget, it annoys me to no end that cross country has still not been reinstated as an Olympic sport.

Yeah, I noticed that when I checked the standings that Bougaard and Williams are the only two heptathletes with the standard. I'm curious about the standards with this heat. F.ex. Hocker doesn't have it in the 1500 (too many sit and kick races...) and it's going to be a slow pace. But people seem to think there's some way he can qualify without it? I need to look into it. This may be an answer to the Hocker question. It's an estimate, but this is probably pretty close to what he needs to do.

why is race walking a thing Good question. Race walking is an Olympic event, but cross country isn't. I'm hopeful XC will return for 2028 Los Angeles, given its popularity in the US.

Fraser-Pryce ran 21.79 in the 200m final this morning. Jackson was 2nd in 21.82, Thompson was 22.02 in third.

I didn't realize that the 21.62 that Thomas ran was the second-fastest ever. FloJo's 200m world record is 21.34 from 1988...yeah, doping helps a lot.

Formchart seems low on Bougaard. But I don't really follow hep past NCAA so maybe she hasn't developed as well. Just checked, and she's only one of 2 with the Oly standard so I like her chances. Would need 2 more girls to get the standard and that's not gonna happen in this heat. The Olympic qualifying standard for the Heptathlon is 6420. Considering that the two leaders, who don't have the standard are at 4042 and 3936 after 4 events, I don't think is unreasonable to think that the they will reach the Olympic standard, if their 2nd day is strong enough to get in the top 3.

You have a good point. I looked up the PRs for Kunz and Brooks in the remaining events. If they can hit them, they would get the following points: KunzL. Jump : 946 Javelin : 733 800m : 894 Current : 4042 Total : 6617 BrooksL. Jump : 1099 Javelin : 1020 800m : 856 Current : 3946 Total : 6921 Now, I obviously don't expect either athlete to hit their PRs in all three events, especially with the heat. But hitting the standard does seem possible. Based on the remaining events, it seems more likely that Brooks will hit the standard than Kunz will, but it should be fun to watch.

Chelimo wins the men's 5K, as he held off Fisher and Kincaid down the home stretch. All three are going to Tokyo.

Before the trials end, I just want to compliment Lewis Johnson on the job he's done as the sideline reporter. He's a consummate professional.
