Kunz set a personal best in the long jump and adds 1050 points, over 100 more than her previous PB would have garnered. Brooks had 962 points, which is over 100 points fewer than her PB would have earned her. Kunz leads after five events with 5049 points, while Brooks slipped to fourth behind Williams and Bougard. Kunz has her weaker events on day two, so this was big for her. If she matches her PBs in the last two events, she'd end up with 6676 points. Brooks would score 6784 points is she can match her personal bests in the last two events. The 800 will likely be very tough in the heat, though.

Also, the men's high jump final is underway. JuVaughn Harrison is trying to make the team in the high jump and long jump. The last person to do that was Jim Thorpe in 1912. Thorpe is widely regarded as among the best athletes in history, so that would be quite an accomplishment.

Omar McLeod finished last in Jamaica's trials final today.
Danielle Williams didn't qualify either.

That heat is brutal.

Harrison is on the high jump team for Tokyo, along with McEwan and Sullivan.

That heat is brutal. That's too bad. On the high jump broadcast, they mentioned that the track temperature yesterday was like 146 degrees.

Kunz with another personal best in the javelin. I think she's PR'ing in 3 or 4 of the 7 events here.

Kunz exceeded her PB in the javelin by 32 points. She now needs 606 points in the 800 to get the standard. Her PB is 894. I think she's going to Tokyo.
Edit: In terms of time, I think as long as Kunz stays within 22 seconds of her PB in the 800, she'll get the standard and the spot on the team.

Williams / Kunz / Bougaard will be the three qualifiers as long as everyone makes it around the track twice.

This is good news for Hocker. He needs a quick time in the 1500, since he doesn't have the standard yet. I really feel for Brooks, though.
