There is a small subset of people who are born intersex with ambiguous genitalia or who have some other sexual development disorder (f.ex., undescended testes) and are assigned female at birth. However, because of their development, such athletes will have male sexual glands producing hormones way in advance of cisgendered women and will get an extreme athletic advantage from it. Do we know that's what's happening with these Namibian runners? I know it is well-documented that's the case with Caster Semenya, but wasn't sure if we knew that in this new case. The regulation their 400m participation is restricted under is only applicable to athletes with a "Developmental Sex Disorder." Can one be using alcohol and competing? Genuinely curious, and wonder if your opinion is any different on that. A quick search says they changed that ruling on alcohol recently and it is allowed, but I could be wrong. And, I’m not sure competing while high is what you mean to say, because, that wouldn’t really be what the rule is. 48 hours is a long time — not like the high lasts long. Some people only smoke at night or after competitions, in this case I would think. I would be surprised if she smoked within a couple hours of competition but could be wrong. I saw the excerpt earlier talking about risk taking being the rationale for not allowing marijuana. Maybe speaking from personal experience or not, but, I’m willing to bet most people are 10000x more willing to take risks from being drunk vs. being high. I absolutely think if an athlete showed up for a competition drunk they should be disqualified and suspended. Do you think all athletes should be tested, before their competition, for this level of drunkedness?

Do you think all athletes should be tested, before their competition, for this level of drunkedness? I think if athletes actually showed up to competitions blasted, then they should probably be tested. But that doesn't really happen in track. I'm not saying it's never happened, but I can't think of an example of a high-level track athlete competing while they were drunk. It seems like a non-issue right now.

Id have no real issue with using a breathalyzer, but it seems like it would be a waste of time and resources since it is extremely uncommon. Also, it would be visually noticeable.

They only test in competition. They also test for cocaine and other drugs, even some that can be found in over-the-counter cold medicines. Also, track is a truly international sport. It's not just in the US, and marijuana is not legal recreationally in most of the countries throughout the world. The banned list comes from WADA, not USADA. I think a lot of Americans have a pretty myopic view on the issue without considering what the rest of the world thinks.

Tough break, but this is why you need to make sure you get the standard at some point during the qualification period. Otherwise, you're at the mercy of the world ranking system, and if your ranking isn't high enough (and it isn't in her case, albeit just barely), then you're out of luck. I'm not really surprised that FloTrack has an incorrect take. Their coverage of the Sha'Carri situation and other doping news was just embarrassing.

This does surprise me, as I thought Sha'Carri would be a lock for the relay. I guess now she'll have to regroup for Paris.

Sandi Morris's poles got lost/didnt make it to Monaco... She bowed out quite early.
Miller-Uibo won the 200m in 22.23.. I thought Gabby Thomas was supposed to compete but she must've withdrawn

Congratulations to Diljeet Taylor for this promotion, though I don't think her duties will actually change. I think they just wanted to give her a better title and some more money. I also think that they're laying the groundwork to offer her the director job when Eyestone retires. Taylor deserves it.

I guess that makes sense. Her suspension is over, and she's competing on Saturday at the Prefontaine Classic.
