1500 up next. Fun fact: the BYU runner in this race graduated high school in 2013. Such a huge advantage for their distance teams to have those overage runners. Sounds like Taysom Hill of the Saints when he was the QB at BYU. I think he was either 25 or 26 his last year.

Shotput champion Turner Washington of Arizona State is also leading the discuss after the first four rounds of throws by nearly five feet.

LOL Kiptoo gonna try and push the pace again.
You can see the wind on their hair/unis. This is not a race to front-run.

In the heptathlon, Tyra Gittens is cruising toward another title with a 162-point lead after four events. One of the remaining events is long jump, and she already finished second in the open long jump behind collegiate record holder Tara Davis, so she's sure to increase that lead even more.

Wow, Hocker is way back with only 3 or so laps left.

Teare outkicks Grijalva and Kioko to take the 5000.

Teare - Grijalva (NAU) - Kioko (Campbell) - Hocker in the 5K.
13:12 - that breaks the NCAA Champs record by 6 seconds - fast race especially considering heavy wind. Hocker's PB was only good for 4th.
With LSU running away with the team title, seems smart to not have all of our runners doubling-up to chase points and instead get the Ws. Don't think Teare wins that if he runs the 1500 or 10K.
Kiptoo finishes 13th...... Iowa St. has some talented runners but they never have good tactics IMO.

LSU's final margin of victory is 31, as they put up 84 points, the third-highest total since 1984. Oregon is second with 53.

NC A&T takes the 4 x 400. Wow, they finished third in the team scoring. That's a great accomplishment for them.

1 LSU 84 2 Oregon 53 3 N. Carolina A&T 35 4 Florida 34.5 5 USC 33 6 Texas 29 6 Texas A&M 29 8 Georgia 25 9 Arizona State 24 10 Florida State 23.5
Final Men's standings. NCA&T with a great showing. Like I said earlier, I wonder how long till Clemson poaches him. Their coach is doing well enough to keep his job, but bringing Ross home seems a no-brainer
UCLA only scoring 3 points. Shake my damn head.

This is the part of the meet where we need to take a moment and ask WTF is UCLA doing and why is their track program in such terrible shape. I think a lot of it comes down to UCLA's rather notorious stinginess when it comes to coaching salaries. UCLA track director Avery Anderson made just under $200,000 in 2019. That might sound like a lot, but apparently then-Kentucky head coach (and former Stanford director) Edrick Floreal was paid $429,000 in 2016. That's a huge disparity, and that's before we even get into the part where it's much more expensive to live in Los Angeles than Lexington.

After a couple of fairly pedestrian jumps for her, Tyra Gittens puts up a 21-9.5 in her third jump to increase her lead to 416 points after five events.

Exciting tea: Georgia's coach is stepping down at the end of the season. He's only in his 40s but doesn't like recruiting and will be training pros instead. Georgia's trying to convince USC's coach, and the timing might actually work out for her to move on at a peak.

Georgia's trying to convince USC's coach, and the timing might actually work out for her to move on at a peak. I could see that potentially happening. I'm not sure what USC pays its track coaches, but Georgia has a lot of football money.
