Exciting tea: Georgia's coach is stepping down at the end of the season. He's only in his 40s but doesn't like recruiting and will be training pros instead. Georgia's trying to convince USC's coach, and the timing might actually work out for her to move on at a peak. I could see that potentially happening. I'm not sure what USC pays its track coaches, but Georgia has a lot of football money. USC can pay enough to make it happen, but USC is at its peak and I can easily see her wanting to get away from Oregon. This has been the recruiting cycle with a "down" Oregon for not having a good on-campus facility, and even then she could only win conference on the women's side. I've already her a lot of grumblings about not wanting to recruit against O with the new facilities that not only hosts nationals every year, but also always the Olympic Trials and US Nationals half the time. Plus, all her best athletes are graduating, and it might make sense to take the women's titles and run with it some place new. SEC is deeper overall, but she won't be the clear "second fiddle" in conference. She can install a sprint power program anywhere, and if you add it to Georgia's field/multi base, that would be monstrous. Georgia has pretty crappy track facilities IIRC, so in addition to a fat paycheck they'd probably need to commit to building a new stadium.

I guess it depends on Georgia's willingness to commit. I agree that the facilities are at least as important (probably more) as the pay. They certainly have the money to invest in the program, as they're among the top five athletic departments in revenue at last check.

I looked into the Caryl Smith-Gilbert to Georgia rumor over on a track forum. It does seem like there is quite a bit of smoke there. Some people are claiming it's a done deal and that she was offered ~$500K/year. Others are claiming that she would never leave USC for Georgia and its "bottom-of-the-barrel in the SEC" track facilities. It seems similar to VT in that some people likely know what's up. It's just a question of figuring out which people.

Oregon drops the baton. I thought we left those issues 5 years ago. 2nd leg started running too soon (or maybe leadoff was fading?)
USC takes it. That positions them really well for the team title.

Great race as TeeTee Terry edges out LSU at the line to pick up 10 points for USC.

Women's 1500 is up next. I like Saige Hurta from CU for the title, but Gear, Camp or one of the Stanford girls could take it too.

BTW, Villanova VB player Sanaa Barnes is competing in the High Jump finals. She just cleared 5-10.
Tyra Gittens missed her first at 5-10. She may just be exhausted from the Hep and the LJ.

I agree that Hurta is likely to win the 1500. It will be interesting to see how Camp does. She was BYU's top finisher at cross country nationals (11th overall) for the national champion Cougars, and Diljeet Taylor has said that Camp doesn't even really like cross country, as she's much more of a track runner.

Jill Montgomery is already annoying me as she insists that the 1500 is a "sprint." I mean, it can be run at a fast pace, but come on.

Wow, I did not expect Camp to win that going away. Great race by her, and Diljeet Taylor does it again.

Wow, Camp crushed it. I guess i called it on the 1st page but I thought Hurta would have been able to close it down. Hurta 2nd, Donaghu 3rd.
Gear 5th but was never a factor. Arkansas continues to have a rough meet.

BYU favored to take the steeple, but Koniezcek from Oregon or Rainsberger from Washington (ex-Oregon) could contend, but I like Wayment's kick.

This is a really good steeplechase field. I like Wayment to win, and she may have a look at Courtney Frerichs' collegiate record.
