There are two things I noticed over the last two weeks that I wanted to bring up/hear more opinions about. 1. When I attended the Purdue-IU game at IU, I noticed Lourdes was warming up strictly on the right side. I have been wondering how the middle position is going to play out with the incoming talent as well as the young talent we already have. I can definitely see her moving to the pin next year, but I'm not sure how easy the transition will be moving into games. 2. I also noticed Ali Hornung played a little bit of outside and had two solid blocks while she was out there. Did they keep her there for the fun of it or were they intentionally seeing how she did? I know she's undersized and she's been mostly in the DS role this season, but are they considering her as a hitter after Newton leaves? Thoughts/opinions? Lourdes Myers hasn’t had much playing time at all. Coach Shondell mentioned that fans would love her. I can’t remember for sure, but I think I heard that she had surgery and was feeling better and better physically. Purdue is so deep in every position, it’s an embarrassment of riches. I can’t remember Purdue ever being this deep in every position in 17 years. Ali Hornung was the Indiana Volleyball player of the year, so I am guessing that she could possibly be a 6 rotation player. I saw her attack from the back row once. Not sure if it’s possible for her to be in 6 rotations. Would anyone say that she is comparable to Sam Epenesa? Did anyone else catch that the announcer said that Colvin can touch 10 feet 9 inches?!

Could you imagine being a coach in the Big Ten trying to prepare for Purdue? One night you are planning for Newton, Ellis, Trammell, Johnson, and then the very next night it could be Newton, Koch, Johnson, Colvin, or in last night's case Newton, Colvin, Tramell, Koch! Man.... The depth... I truly hope that Jael Johnson is able to play soon. She is a Senior and will be sorely missed. Colvin and Trammell are able to fill in, but JJ brings her individual skills to the match too.

Not sure about her vertical compared to Sam though; Sam had hops. Ali is probably a good attacker but Epenesa had a lot of shots too; she just lacked consistency. Hornung could be playing the role Otec played in her freshman/sophomore years -- DS for an OH and sometimes comes in to play front row in rotation 1 to better the passing and swing if we need her to. And yes, Colvin can get UP THERE. http://instagram.com/p/CSXg0GTFC-T

I am not saying she is the main reason but obviously her contributions are big. Not sure Purdue will have a better chance to go to a final four in the next two or three seasons since this group is so experienced. If I am coaching this boiler team I am doing whatever it takes to get me to the final four. Even if that means starting Colvin or Trammell over Johnson...

I thought that Colvin was an X-factor in last nights game. I thought that it was weird when Coach Shondell wasted 2 substitutions in the first match against Illinois. He subbed in Colvin and then one play later subbed Trammell back in right away. I didn’t understand it. I never claim to know much about volleyball skill-wise. I just see that Jael Johnson brings a lot of energy and her teammates feed off of it after a huge block from her. She seems so happy and builds her teammates up. Just my opinion.

Sometimes coaches do it to talk to a player so maybe Shondell had some valuable intel to share with her

Hi everyone! I was looking up the future Purdue recruits and saw that these 3 ladies committed for 2023…surprisingly there are no recruits for 2022. Taylor Anderson—6’1”—Opposite/Right side, Outside hitter, Setter—San Antonio,TX Julia Kane—5’10”—Libero—Windermere, FL Grace Heaney—6’2”—Opposite/Right side,Setter—Omaha, NE
I wanted to know what do people know about these recruits. Thanks!

Thanks! From what I know and have been following, the 2022 recruits are: Brielle Warren -- 6'1" -- Outside Hitter -- Houston, TX Elizabeth (Lizzie) Carr -- 6'5" -- Middle Blocker -- West Chester?, PA We also have Kenna Wollard for the 2023 class. She's a 6'1" -- Outside Hitter -- Dunlap, IL.

It's been so cool to watch the evolution of Newton. From a kid who came in during the era of Cuttino/Atkinson dominance to arguably the best 6-rotation OH Purdue has produced since Ariel Turner.

So is Trammell injured or is Colvin just beating her out right now?

So is Trammell injured or is Colvin just beating her out right now? Colvin is beating her out. Trammel is struggling offensively (or she's just not aggressive enough) and now Colvin is finding her rhythm blocking, finally catching up with the speed of the game.

Who’s likely to take over the setting role when Bush graduates? She’s so good. I love watching her play.

Who’s likely to take over the setting role when Bush graduates? She’s so good. I love watching her play. Most likely Renner. She's looked pretty good when they sub her in late into sets when Purdue is up. She's definitely not as quick to the ball as Bush, but that might be from the torn ACL she had her freshman year. And she's not as aggressive -- Bush goes after everything. But she's a bigger block and has a nice serve. It helps that she sets with most of the players that will probably be on the court next year should Cleveland and Johnson not return.

Bush isn’t tall, but she is hell athletic. Have you seen how high and over she gets when she is in on a double block?
Regardless - Renner has been a practice player for awhile now and she will definitely bring a different style than Bush, but I know Purdue will be in good hands. I think her problem will be that she will have no Cleveland or Newton. I hope she connects well with middles because it looks like that is where the offense will be coming from with these amazing ones developing now.
