according to graphics, the USA is at 78% positive receptions...we're not losing to anyone passing like that. mbh can pass.

Thompson is more effective than Drews against Japan - but it's good for Drews to have to figure it out. She has had some good hits. Maybe Japan just knows Drews too well? Also, think Drews should maybe try to play in Europe. she's probably making around/over 500k in Japan...you don't ditch that unless one of the richer teams in Turkey offers you that much (the only European teams that can) Question. If Turkey is the tops for pro, why does it seem like their national team isn’t always in the spotlight/one of the best teams? I know pro, people from all over play, but you would think it would coorelate to some success

It's just the small stuff - it seems like she wasn't doing as well as the others - especially at the net. I figured that's what happens when you're used to just overpowering (which is her style) - however, if she is getting paid that much - yep, can't ignore that!

I know pro, people from all over play, but you would think it would coorelate to some success all of their starters/bench players clump on the top teams and don't spread out so they don't consistently start. the talent is concentrated at the top and there's very little depth in the league, not a lot of player development will happen if the national team players don't spread out to the smaller teams and get playing time.

Thompson is hitting 7/7. Whoa. I think he worded that wrong. She had 7 points all from 7 kills, but I distinctively remember her getting blocked but we covered and she had at least one error. But Poulter has definitely found her go-to hitter.

But maybe because all the important roles goes to foreigners - especially in Champion's League. Domestic is another story. I mean just look at their starting opposite (Ebrar Karakurt), Vakifbank opted for Haak (Sweden) and Karakurt ended up with Carlini in THY - which is also how they placed so high. Also, usually only Vakifbank, Fenerbache and Eczacibasi are the perennial powers. THY and Galatasaray ...then everyone else.

That is not the case in Italy for some reason but their league is more competitive from top to bottom.

FIVB stats these things so weird. 7-0-11 for Thompson with 0 blocks?

Anyway, agreed, good test for the USA. Japan has a nice style of Asian volleyball - defense and precision! Very neat to see. Think that second set loss did it for them though.

@avid had a good response to this several week ago. I think he said something along the lines of what @toddyj said with one additional point, which I can't remember now. Bottom line is that the foreigner limit is the problem.

I thought I saw her get a block during the 3rd set.
