Way to make the most of an opportunity, Stahl! Stahl is everything. Hopefully he can get his serve in more often than not!

If A. Russell recovers better than expected, can Speraw sub him in before the Olympics? Could you imagine being told you're going to the Olympics only for A. Russell to pop up and Speraw call you into his office and say "Actually..." It is a known possibility

A little sad for Averill and Jendryk who didn’t make the roster. I thought Both players played better than other middles who made it. At least Stahl made the cut.

Hopefully he can get his serve in more often than not! Someone needs to deliver that same message to Holt! 😂

USAV official article says 7 alternates but there are actually 8…

I think everyone knew, in terms of middles, it was going to come down to 1 of the 3, no way Speraw was going to leave off Smith or Holt. The 2 curious things for me was 1) Patch, 2) Kyle Russell. Patch, while inconsistent, brings a massive upside that just can't be compared to. Sure, Ensing is more consistent, but with that said, there's so much he can do. With Patch you just get that possiblity of fully next level, hit over anyone in the world potential. That said, I'm extremely curious about the knee. And if it's something serious, he'll be out the rest of the VNL. Leads to Kyle Russell, as someone that wasn't even on the VNL roster, I wonder why he was chosen over Hanes. Granted, no one has really seen Hanes play outside of practices, so maybe it's something not practice/play related?
edit: I think with the announcement, it's gonna be an interesting rest of the VNL. Will Speraw play Hanes and/or Patch (if he can play), and if so, what attitudes will they take in those games.

I agree about Patch. He has the potential to impact the game more, but not necessarily always in a positive way. I’m not sure how big of a role Ensing will play at the Olympics, but I would assume most of the right side burden was always going to be on Matt Anderson anyways.

I said most of this in the other thread but I’ll add here as well. Patch’s skills are medium to poor. The lineup around him needs to compliment him and he needs to be spiking at a high level to contribute in any given match. If he’s not being set and/or he’s not scoring he’s a liability in every phase. If the team got to Japan and had to play either patch or Ensing serious minutes then team USA is in trouble. Anderson needs to be the opposite and carry a heavy load.

The USA is not winning without Anderson at opposite so the backup was rather unimportant, tbh.

That said, it's something that Matt Anderson can most definitely fill, esp because of his passing and defensive capabilities. Which, as you state, completely compliment Patch.
That said, regardless of how you slice it, there is going to be a big question marks. Who is the other OH if MA is OPP. Thus, you have an offense and passing issue with whomever fills in that 2nd OH spot.

Totally fair. Patch's consistency would terrify me if he were a full time starter though. The second OH is a fun one to watch assuming Sander is back and healthy. If he is still banged up then all bets are off on lineups. I also hope Holt finds form. He has been a shadow of himself in this VNL.

My personal thought is that without Russell, the US's medal chances are from the outside looking in. Thus, I think the decision Speraw made is more likely to go with the veterans and those that have been around and earned their spots with the test of time, and give them one last Olympics. At least, in my mind, it is the only thing that seems to work in my brain as to why they'd also take Muagatutia.
