As I suspected. But still nobody’s going to push back on that story for details, I’d guess. I actually don’t believe this based on what what done: I think some people are covering their asses me too. doesn't pass the smell test

They should take some days to watch all the games of the last few tournaments from Latvia to learn how a team should function. That team consistently shows a ton of grit completely independent of the score. They have found a perfect way of playing with a lot of joy while still bringing the intensity needed! You mean the events where Slaes posted the longest winning streak since Kira Walkenhorst?

You mean the events where Slaes posted the longest winning streak since Kira Walkenhorst? Haha true! Less about playing style but more around how to not let negativity and tension creep in after a few unfortunate points - at least in Gstaad and here that was something that stood out and probably helped Latvia get better results than their current playing level would suggest.

What throws me off is the sand jumping at the bottom of the clip. Not where the ball hits

“We made more than enough opportunities for ourselves to win,” Claes said. “Fought through that first, up in the second, and we let them back in. Everybody’s good out here, so let that door open just a little, and here we are.” In the third set, a ruling on a Sponcil serve raised questions on social media usavolleyball.org/story/two-tough-beach-defeats-to-open-playoffs/

What throws me off is the sand jumping at the bottom of the clip. Not where the ball hits Exactly, it’s not clear when watching but the line definitely bounces. Otherwise how does the sand in 2 different places nowhere near the ball jump off the line?

Even if so, still not grounds for a protest, right? Happens in the NBA all the time, where the 3 guys in the regular announcing booth say, "Oh they're definitely going to overturn this one"...and then the officials don't overturn on review.

Doesn't necessarily mean the line was hit.

The sand bounces up and it’s not even close to where the ball was.

Again, keeping this in perspective, team Slaes went 3-1 this Olympics.
I wonder, as another poster above, what was the affect of Slaes being separated by quarantine requirements with Claes at the separate hotel. Was Claes able to take advantage of the recovery facilities? Was Slaes able to practice as they normally do?
In any case, whatever caused Claes' very noticeable dip in both emotional and physical energy the second half of the second set was probably the deciding factor. The third set was pretty even.

The sand bounces up and it’s not even close to where the ball was. I guess my sticking point is based on what I've seen in other similar review plays. Pretty much in all of these reviews, when the ball is traveling across/over the line, if the ball catches the line you can see the line move. I'm struggling to understand how, if the ball touched the line, I'm just not seeing any detectable movement of the line here. To me it makes no sense to conclude that the ball hit the line enough to make the sand jump but not enough to move the line detectably.

From what’s gathered from Phil’s restrictions, you can’t leave the quarantine hotel. You can only use the recovery facilities at the last hour. Medical treatment would also be at the last time slot. Cannot practice with other teams and can only practice on the courts at the last time slot.

One article on restricted athletes said Phil "could not receive PT or other treatment." Financial times. Your post would seem more realistic, last hour, etc., and hope that was the case.

Thats one perspective. Another might be: A) Kenya is not a professional volleyball team, so really Slaes were 2-1 B) Ana/Rebecca showed a noticeable drop off after they won the single game they needed, then lost the next two which was the best possible result for Brazil. In terms of matches we know they won, against professional opposition that we are 100% certain were not trying to lose, Slaes went 1-1.
