Actually the Beach is a very young team. Canez is a 5th senior, but this is her first year playing D1 volleyball. So I wouldn’t say she is an experienced senior. Kash is the only true starter from the 2019 team, and should be playing better. Dela Cruz is actually a junior, and is playing well. Kennedy, Tia, and Hoff are only in their second year of playing college volleyball, and will only get better. There are 14 freshman on the roster, three of which are starters: Lovett, Bacon, and Partyka. Once Partyka is healthy, she will replace Chavira. Fuller was the other freshman who was starting at middle before she got hurt and was replaced by Bacon. Who knows, if she remained healthy Canez might not have been starting. Hoping Martinez is ready to play soon, think she could really help the team. I’m sure the coaches are aware their jobs could very likely be on the line, if they don’t have a successful season. One of the things I have heard is that the coaches aren’t on the same page. You have three coaches telling players three different things to do on the court. As you can imagine that can cause some confusion on the court. Hoping they get things figured out soon! nope, Canez was all Big Sky, which is D1 Volleyball and nope, they are younger than some teams, but not really 'young', Majority are juniors and seniors in their class, and yes skipped a year, but calling them young sounds like a bunch of frosh out there who haven't played together. All teams have a mix. the point is there should be more maturity than the team and coaches display. Tia set vs. the San Diego teams and that was the best LB performances in a long time, and it's not like that frosh setter is that huge an upgrade. it looked so disorganized which goes to the coaching and not being prepared. this was a HUGE weekend and both Cal Poly & Bake came in with a purpose. As soon as Kash and Lovett got blocked a few times in teh beginning vs. Poly it's as if the entire team had no fundamentals to fall back upone and adjust, and they forgot how to play Volleyball, no adjustments, no grinding. And at home. Watch Joy's post game press conference and the comments by players and her - it'll make you sick to your stomach the reaction and it conveyed a team/staff without much idea about what happened and what to change and hinted at some real lack of cohesion and the need to have better 'huddles' (paraphrasing) lol. there's just not much left to comment on when it's always excuses now. Canez played for Southern Utah, guess I don’t consider that real D1 experience. They are a young team, but guess we will have to agree to disagree on that. Lol! The match against San Diego they all played well and seemed to be clicking. In the matches last weekend, Tia was struggling setting. Her sets were too low and she didn’t give her hitters a chance. I agree Partyka isn’t a huge upgrade, but she is 6’2 and has great potential. Yes, I did see the press conference and thought it was awful. I don’t think the coaches are connecting with the players, but hopefully they figure it out. Otherwise, I think coaches will be in the hot seat.

I've just been lurking as I don't follow women's vb too closely. I was a bit surprised at how UCSB has mastered the 3-2 loss as they had nearly everyone return from last year's team that, like everyone else didn't actually play games so I guess they're still recovering from the loss of Ruddins & Co after the 2019 season. Based on their inability to close, no way do I agree with ccman putting them in the same top tier as UH, at least not yet. Let's see how they do on the road this week. Btw, in comparing rosters, the Gauchos just lost one player early, setter Romani Vivao who made the all-frosh team in 2019. She does not appear to be playing for any other team right now, anyone know what happened to her? BTW, ccman, I thoroughly enjoy your posts, its a shame you don't post on the BW basketball message board anymore. if Long Beach and Poly ever decide to resume playing basketball, I'll probably resume posting on the basketball board.

and in 24 hours the Beach goes from contender to also ran Guess long beach is the fraud I'm trying to think of a worse weekend I ve seen in Beach 's VB history, it was wretched play Kash was playing legit All American Caliber hitting and both Poly and Bake just were the better prepared teams overall consistent play this was Joy s chance to finally make a statement about the program and she and this team failed and failed miserably The chance of her winning a title are pretty much gone, today was a must win and they fell apart once again when this coaches players need to grind and show competence Inexcusable stuff, what a flippin disaster at the Pyramid Couldn't agree more! Coach Joy (and her husband) need to be replaced. They have completely destroyed a once very proud program. I was surprise how easily CAL POLY was able to sweep LBSU. After LB won an impressive victory over USD.

Sorry to go off-topic here but just for ccman, I am doing a men's hoops BWC preview, countdown style. I am projecting improvements for both of your teams (not hard given their last place & 9th place finishes last year, but hey) Today is #8 Cal Poly www.tapatalk.com/groups/bigwest/big-west-countdown-11-8-t25510-s20.htmlOk, back to women's VB. Looks like inconsistency is the dominant characteristic of this year's Beach team, they throttled Fullerton last night, -8 in the last set of the sweep!

Hmm.... sounds like Beach 2019. Either very very good, or, watch out below. Not quite sure what dynamic is at work for that to be the case. But, it makes Beach an always dangerous team, to others, or to themselves.

Hawaii HC Robyn solved one problem with setting duties, now I wonder about will she find the problems with who will be the two pin hitters from now or is it still in progress? We'll find out this weekend.

#3, CSUN Matadors, last week's match against UCI and UCSD...hmmm Here is a Throwback Thursday moment > way, way back in 1990 when CSUN went from Div II to Div I, CSUN did quite well as an independent in women's volleyball was easily beating(but certainly not acting cocky) against established Div 1 teams that...well, just didn't have a winning record year after year fast forward it's been 21 years that CSUN has been competing in Div 1 and the teams since 2015 to now...well I'm sure they're trying their best and up to their poetential, but Let's get going CSUN Attachments:

#1 CSUN Matadors, Throwback Thursday, CSUN 2011 team, the 2010-2014 teams, better than not bad just wondering what has been the atmosphere and attitude since the '14 team? were/are they confident, want to build a winning feeling, assertive, comfortable - i dunno what else to say, but is there a winning drive and spirit at CSUN? all y'all know everything and overshare so at your convenience share with Volleytalk

We'll find out this weekend. We will probably not get an answer until Mia Johnson returns to action. Thinking, Mia Johnson is better offensively, but Riley Wagoner is better defensively. If Riley Wagoner can consistently put up decent numbers offensively, she will probably be the starter. The question right now is, why is Leoniak not playing.

Regarding Leoniak, it's pretty obvious why she's not playing as she is only hitting .129 for the year. We need better offensive production out of that position....better than .129 anyway.....

Big game tonight with rivals CP & UCSB, both undefeated in conference, facing off in SLO. Both had a rough OOC run with SLO playing an especially challenging schedule. They have one mutual opponent in Pepperdine with the Mustangs getting swept while the Gauchos, as was their practice all OOC, losing in 5.
I predict it goes 5 tonight, can SB finally get a win in a 5 set match?
The other first place team Hawaii hosts the inconsistent Beach. Could be a great game depending upon which LB team shows up. Davis & Irvine face off in a battle of tied for fourth place teams.
