I'd be fine if I never hear "culture fit" again. Now it's on the tip of everyone's tongue. Geography used to the "culture" but now apparently it's more, or it's not and "culture fit" is just thrown around haphazardly. It's big-time college sports -- sports and money is the culture. So many people acting concerned about "cultural fit" just seems ridiculous. I grew up in Minnesota, went to Northwestern undergrad, went to Illinois for grad school, and still live in Big Ten Country. I'm a big fan of the B1G Ten, but don't have any sort of deep conference "identity." I could not care less if an added school is an alleged improper "cultural fit" as long as it adds something athletically and monetarily.
I view phrases like "culture fit" to be nothing more than PR speak. In my mind, I translate it into, ~ I don't want to tell you the real reason, but I have to say something.

My uneducated guess is that, when one is looking for the basis of a decision made by a college regarding major sports, the answer is not "cultural fit" or "academic fit" or any other "fit" one might come up with. My guess is that the answer is "money." The second basis is probably "money." The third fourth and fifth bases are also probably "money."

After Money, the next concern is can I beat these teams and not run a chance of getting my football team a bunch of losses that will keep us out of a bowl that will bring in lots of Money.

Being a bit cynical, I tend to believe that cultural fit is something that traditional conferences, and especially its fans, tend to talk about before realignment and then $$ take over when it comes time to choose. For example a number of the Big 10 fans here like to talk about cultural fit, but Maryland and Rutgers were definitely not cultural fits. Same, but with AAU. It's not on anyone's radar until these conversations pop up. Once realignment is done, everyone forgets it exists. Right. Again, I know the B1G prefers AAU universities, but that B1G fans, alums, followers would be adamantly against a non-AAU school dumbfounds me. Are the research bona fides of Big Ten AAU schools going to vanish if a non-AAU school joins? Will the reputation of all the individual schools decrease? Of course not. Stanford is in a conference with non AAU and not highly ranked Oregon State. Does that take any shine off of Stanford as an institution and it's graduates? I went to Northwestern. Am I worried that it's reputation, the value of my degree will decrease if West Virginia joins the Big Ten. Not at all.

Funny, but also Bush league You seem to misunderstand the nature of state senators. This illustrates how big a waste the whole day was. This is part of the closing comments. "Senator Nelson, Chair of Select Committee, closes hearing reminding members: There is no law prohibiting UT from making this decision."

"Senator Nelson, Chair of Select Committee, closes hearing reminding members: There is no law prohibiting UT from making this decision." This isn't the own you think it is. Legislative bodies hold hearings on things that aren't illegal all the time. And this body could make a law prohibiting UT from making that decision.

Was it a bait and switch by Neb? Are they getting kicked out of the B1G? ND is not an AAU University but the B1G would take them in a New York second. It's the height of hypocrisy, nonsense and a built in excuse for the B1G leadership!

Texas legislature only meets in regular session every two years. That session ended back in June and the next regular session is January 2023. In between, the legislature can meet in special session. Any special session can only be called by the governor. Also the governor specifies the topics that can be considered for legislation. The current governor is a UT grad and football season ticket holder.

I must say, it'd be extremely funny if the B1G just traded out Kansas for Nebraska.
