Side note: The mixed relay looked really really fun. Why not mixed relay swimming and more important to this forum, coed beach volleyball? I see coed 2’s and 4’s tourneys all the time, No different from tennis mixed doubles.

This reminds me of perhaps my favorite story from high school track. One year at state, we had our 4x100 relay team in the final, and the leadoff runner actually forgot the baton at the beginning of the race. When he got to the first exchange and realized his mistake, he just slapped the next runner's hand, and then the subsequent runners did that at each "exchange." The team was of course DQ'd while everyone else laughed. One of our rival schools sent a baton to our coach as a "gift" the next Christmas, seeing as our school apparently couldn't afford one. It was pretty humiliating for everyone involved. Two of my dumbass teammates in the 4x4 learned that it's apparently legal to throw the baton, so they thought they'd get an edge by having one runner stand at the edge of the exchange zone and the leadoff guy throw it to him as soon as he entered it. Not only did he miss the throw, but the "receiver" ended up bulldozing one of the other runners trying to track it down. They never ran a relay again.

Not even 9 AM and it's already in the 90s in the stadium in Tokyo. That may keep the times down in the men's 800 later.

NBC just skipped over heat 1 of the 800. Jewett was 5th in 1:45.07 He took it out fast. Probably smart because he's gonna get through on time this way and he would have been out kicked anyways.

They just said it’s still looking good for Jewett. Sounds like you’re wise about sports beyond vball for the time being.

Jewett has the 2nd non-qualified time with two heats left. Top 6 get a spot

I think being an Oregon fan might give something away Oh is Jewett Oregon. Boo the homer! LOL Jewett is USC. He beat out Oregon's Charlie Hunter (who is running from Australia here - finished 4th in his heat and might make it through on time too depending on the last heat) in both PAC and NCAA's this year, so I'm def not a homer. He's easy to cheer for though. Apparently a huge anime nerd and is also really well spoken and upbeat in interviews (surprisingly high-pitched voice though)

Jamaicans qualify 1-2-4 into final in women's 100, broken up by Ta Lou. Daniels qualifies to the final, but Prandini and Oliver don't - not really surprising as Shacarri was our only medal threat here.
Big news is Okagbare was held out of the semis for an announced doping test and Asher-Smith of GB didn't make it - they were the best threats to break up the Jamaican party on the podium, though Asher-Smith is better in the 200.

Juvaughn Harrison is into the finals of both the high jump and long jump. Crazy combination.
