I love some of these comments. The fact that anyone who has ever played for JLP has absolutely LOVED her is telling, as is the Chinese team's reaction to her leaving as seen above.

That was so lovely. When they all bowed to her out of admiration and respect I teared up a little bit. What a legend.

I'm not crying, you're crying. That was emotional.

I am still wanting to see the two documentary films made about her, Iron Hammer and Leap. I can't believe Chinese fans would forget all that she has done for that country.

Im sad for her. Obviously this is never how someone as legendary as she is should go out. It’s even more sad hearing that Chinese fans are being so relentless towards her.

There’s a number of former USWNT players that would like a word with you… At any rate, JLP should head back to SoCal, settle in and relax. Lydia’s a short flight away up in San Francisco. Maybe chat with Peter Vint, see if there’s some common ground for an advisory or consulting gig. Or just hang for a while and reflect upon a pretty incredible career.

There’s a difference between respect and love. And no one would ever describe Lang Ping as humble. Lang Ping is both respected and love by her players. She's a legendary figure in Chinese volleyball and also respected in international volleyball circles. She's a tough coach but one that also treat her players like human beings and she showers concern and empathy to her players. She's almost like a mother figure to her players. A stern yet caring figure. This matters in China because prior Chinese coaches treat their volleyball players extremely harshly, like a tool that is used and then disposed of when no longer needed. They wear them out quickly from extreme training to be replaced by another player, that was why Chinese volleyball player careers were so short.

Yup, that was how China used to treat their athletes. The athletes are there to get glory for the state, but the state will not treat you well in kind. You sacrifice for the state, and the state will dump you when you are done. Volleyball is actually a bit better in that more players now get a college education, they are not simple-minded athletes that have no skills beyond their own sport. Chinese people are also now questioning the extremely harsh sport regime that deliver gold for the state but chew out those who don't make the cut because they suffered from crippling injuries or simply weren't good enough. Then they are left with no skills to find any job in the broader society.
This is why China's ex-NT captain and Rio gold medallist Hui Ruoqi is having a post-volleyball career as a public celebrity. Yes she has the looks and attractive figure to be popular, but far more importantly, she is using her fame to raise money for her charity, which gives money to ex-volleyball players, coaches and trainers for them to enroll in courses to learn new skills once their volleyball careers are over.

She is a legend. One of the most clutch players ever, played her best when it mattered most. The second most decorated player in China behind Liang Yan ( majors only) and the most successful WVB coach in Chinese history by a wide margin Tied Yuan Wei Ming who also led China to three major titles but JLP also led the team to two silver medals at the world championships and another silver medal at the olympics The only person who won the olympics gold medal as a player and head coach The only person who won the World Cup TWICE as a player and head coach The only female who won the world championships as a player and assistant coach The only coach who led two countries to the olympics gold medal match
There is no words to describe what she has done to the volleyball world. Most great players do not make great coaches. A bad tournament run is an exception.
The next coach will probably be like the useless Hu Jin than the great JLP

This is the video of Lang Ping's apology after China was eliminated. She thanked fans for their continued support despite China's poor performance. At one point she was struggling to maintain composure. That shows that despite her general lack of emotion on court, the mental pressure on her was indeed immense. It certainly wasn't an easy interview for her, but I admire her candor and willingness to own up to China's bad performance. The video ended unfortunately with a bit of propaganda, saying how Netziens still support Lang Ping and the team despite China's loss. Nope, that is fake news, judging by the torrent of criticism againt Lang Ping and the team on Chinese social media:
And this is another take on Chinese players crying after their last match:

Takes responsibility and protecting her players until the end. We Chinese can get so small minded and miss the bigger picture. I am very sad.
