Serious question: isn't gum chewing distracting them? Drews is great but kinda making me crazy lol I am so glad that I'm not the only one. I've tried to ignore it, but it drives me insane. I imagine the other women on the court are able to ignore it.

Does the DR have a legit shot at an upset here? I have to ask. well, last time both teams A-teams met... DR wonΒ Was their A-team not at VNL?

The USA brings out the best in DOM. Plus we haven't played a full strength Dominicana in a while. Brenda was out most of the quad and Brayelin was injured during the VNL. Should be a fun match.

We donβt need another heart attack worthy match π after the last few matches. Go, get the job done, and we will be happy π

If nothing else the scouting on the US proves to be a challenge. Who will play? Do you go after Hancock block? Do go after Poulter defense? Different switches with JT vs Drews? Maybe more backrow attacks from the US with Drews/Hancock vs JT/Poulter?

I am just saying opposition strategy planners will have a tougher time given the uncertainties.

There was a replay yesterday and Hancock was up there. Maybe not quite as high as Poulter..? But it wasn't no slouch of a block either.

This is a match the US SHOULD win, but stranger things have happened in these Olympics...

Was their A-team not at VNL? Brayelin Martinez was out, but otherwise it was their A team. USA played their B+ team against them at the VNL and swept. USA has even had C-level teams beat DR in Pan-Am sort of events. DR, recently, has a history of not being good in the very beginning of tournaments. I think they are so especially messy that they need a few matches to get things sorted out and at least as close to in a rhythm as possible given their level. But, there's good and bad news, Brayelin is clearly not 100% (neither is Gaila, she was out at the VNL with abdominal issues and hasn't really been quite as impactful after a great season in Turkey D2). There is no way Kwiek keeps Brayelin off the court the first two(ish) sets against Japan if she's 100%. But, it may have been a brilliant strategy. She was really terminal coming on and not very worn down after sitting the previous match too.. So, she will be as fresh as realistically possible for this USA match coming in. And DR's offense was good against Japan. They drubbed Japan -10 in a set today and had 3 hitters close to 50% efficiency. USA's block won't let them be that efficient, but, it shows they can be potent offensively and potentially dangerous. USA is still a big heavy favorite. They need to get DR in serve receive trouble and spread the DR block around. They're big, but not super agile/mobile. When it becomes a highball outside battle... Dominicana can possibly win that.
