The thread asking about VolleyballLife.com let me find out about the 2024 USA Volleyball World University Championships Beach National Team Trials taking place May 16-19 at Manhattan Beach. Some interesting pairings… I wonder if USAV influenced some of these pairings. Newberry/Whitmarsh, yawn! Belardi/White, Brennan/Hodel quite intriguing! Some transfer portal entrants included too. Newberry/Whitmarsh are also entered in the AVP HB qualifier that seems to concurrently run with the USAV trials. Nourses, Grace Seits, Kennedy Coakley and Madison Shields also in the AVP HB qualifier. Good luck, Trojans! Nourses play Alexa Fernandez and Sarah Wood! volleyballlife.com/tournament/13089/division/57806/teamsAllyson Alden / Ensley Alden Audrey Koenig / Ashley Vincent Chloe Hoffman / Brooke Rockwell Chloe Hooker / Bailey Showalter Devon Newberry / Jaden Whitmarsh Ella Connor / Isabella Martinez Emma Donley / Zoey Henson Erin Inskeep / Clara Stowell Hailey Hamlett / Samaya Morin Jenna Colligan / Portia Sherman Jessica Horwath / Katherine Phillips Karynn Garrow / Kaileigh Truslow Kelly Belardi / Madison White Madison Goellner / Ashley Pater Natalie Myszkowski / Taylor Wilson Peri Brennan / Xolani Hodel Piper Ferch / Allison Hansen Reilly Allred / Gabrielle Bailey Tessa Van Winkle / Alexandria Young

Fairly good day for the Trojan Family. AVP HB had 8 Trojans out of the 16 winners bracket quarterfinalists. Hughes/Cheng played very well. Harward/Deberg also impressed against the A-Team. Bonus: None of the 6 Bruins won a first round match. Edit: watched later and Cannon/Kraft had an excellent set1 comeback against Denaburg/Kraft.
USAV World University Team Trials had Goellner/Pater dominate their pool, beating the Aldens 21-11,21-10 and later a good Colligan/Sherman pair. Belardi/White lost a very close match to Hamlett/Morin but beat Donley/Henson. Belardi/White get to face Tessa VW in the bracket tomorrow morning. Hooker/Showalter lost both their matches but both were somewhat close. Still get to have a better tomorrow as everyone makes the bracket. Unfortunately, they face Goellner/Pater.

Pretty strong showing by Pater and Goellner in the World University Championships. We'll need them both to elevate their games next season and play in one of the top 3 pairs (Pater likely at the 1s or 2s).

Zoey Henson to USC. Huge long term pickup for the Trojans, especially since she has 3 more years left. Should start at the 1-2s as a defender or split block.

A nice pickup to be sure. Will be interesting to see how she compares to Pater next season now that they are on the same squad. My guess is she will be below Pater.

She was so good at the Fall Pairs Championship and continued playing well at the 2s for Washington. Huge loss for the Huskies-- massive pickup for USC... http://instagram.com/p/C7R5Tl8p-zC

Apparently, Henson and Pater are friends (maybe a little bit of pursuasion). I would not be so sure she comes in below Pater. Henson played primarly at the 2's and a bit at the 1's with a record of 26-9. 6 of her losses were in the first 12 games of the season and she had a 14 game win streak at one point. Good wins over TCU, ASU, Stanford, Cal, FIU and a big win at Gulf Shores over FSU. She split blocked over the course of the season, has a wicked jump serve and a HEAVY arm. It will be interesting to see how USC utilizes her.

It’s been a while since we got a transfer with 3 years of beach left. Probably the first of Dain’s run as Head Coach. Jo Kremer was an indoor transfer from Notre Dame and played 4 years of Beach as a Trojan. Sophie Bukovec was an indoor transfer from Long Beach State who played 3 years of Beach as a Trojan. Terese Cannon was an indoor transfer from Georgetown and played 4 years with USC Beach. Paige Dreeuws did transfer from Hawaii after two beach seasons and played 2020-2022 so only 2 and change. Josannah Vasquez transferred from LBCC and played from 2018-2020 so also 2 years and change. Hailey Harward and Julia Scoles played 2 full USC seasons with Harward getting the 2020 scattering of games added. Btw, I’m in Paris this week and the Olympics Beach Volleyball Stadium built near the Eiffel Tower looks magnifique! I’ll see if I can upload a photo.

IMHO, these are fairly different style players that don't really overlap each other. Both are so good. They needed another solid defender and Henson certainly checks that box. UCLA can't be happy about this addition. Great fit for player and team.

Off the top of my head I'd say Henson is more of a complete player. Can get up over the net to terminate balls. Pater doesn't do that. More of a ball control player.

Kaileigh Truslow committed to USC. Would make a good 4 or 5's defender. She's a big trick player which I don't think fits the coaches style. Looks like the defender side has 4 likely starters. Thomas, Pater, Henson, Truslow. 4 likely blockers White, Goellner, Gessner, Coakley.
