What happened to USF? Didn't they used to be halfway decent?

Mississippi Valley State will always have Jerry Rice. And Willie "Satellite" Totten. Division I-AA’s all-time touchdown per game leader (#2 total TD's career) and ranks 8th in career passing yards (1st all time per game at 455.7 in 1984) along with 21 other all time D1-AA records he still holds after 36 years. 50 of Totten's 139 career TD's went to Rice as did 301 of his 907 completions and 4,693 of his total 12,711 passing yards. That has always been a mythical team to me and one which I was actually able to see twice in 1984 on TV. They were so intriguing that the networks actually picked a couple of their games up nationally.

Don't know if they were the only, but at minimum one of the extremely few "air raid" type teams at that time.

Neil Lomax with Portland St was probably the original ('78-80) and Sean Payton with Eastern Illinois at the same time as Totten. Nobody else until the early 90's though would put those numbers up. Fun times

People were adamant that many of Totten's passes were actually laterals to Rice, who would step back off the line to get the pass, and then he would make magic. In other words, they said many of his completions and TD passes were not, in fact, passes.

Impossible to know as the amount of video which is accessible online is very minimal but there is a 3 part series of the '84 game vs Alcorn St. Watching just the 1st video, I see a lot of deep balls and frequent stacking of 4 WR to the left or to the right. Tiny sample size of course so maybe there is validity to the claims.

Manhattan beat Niagara yesterday so every MAAC team finally has at least one win. Gee, that only took until October. But the head coach for Manhattan is still winless. The head coach is not vaccinated, and therefore cannot coach indoors in NYC. So they have a substitute coach coaching all home games. Apparently they are practicing outside.

How does she still have a job? How does AD still have a job? Why is Manhattan a d1 school?

Latest Update:
Everyone knows that Pitt lost their first match to Georgia Tech last weekend; just Texas and Louisville remain unscathed.
On the defeated list - George Washington squeaked out a 5 setter at Rhode Island to get off the schneid and PVAM beat Bethune-Cookman Monday night in 4. Merrimack, San Francisco, South Carolina State and Mississippi Valley State still winless in the fall 2021 season.

Outdoor practice is going to get old by mid-November. Really by daylight savings. Is she even allowed to coach all of the road games?

Never should have fired Mark.

I call BS on practicing outdoors. There's just no plausible deniability for the coach in matches.
I know Manhattan isn't actually in Manhattan, but where in the hell are they practicing outdoors in the Bronx? On a concrete or grass court somewhere?

I suspect it's a reasonable conjecture that at least one road location would not allow her to coach due to vaccine mandate.
