Good morning! Happy Game Day! Any Badgers fans heading East on I-94 today? Between the 8 pm starts and the weird late afternoon Sundays, this year's schedule is killing me, local road games or not! (so no. Saturday night, absolutely!)

Was 2019 the home disaster where the Badgers were up 2-0? Yes. They could not close out sets.

Sounds familiar. Lost set 3 in deuce too, with some match points.

Sounds familiar. Lost set 3 in deuce too, with some match points. At least against Kentucky we managed to eke out set 4.

As I remember, the badgers just could not stop the other teams down the stretch in close sets in early 2019. They served more conservatively, attacked more conservatively in part because their passing got loose, and eventually they would error and lose the sets. It was a cumulative nervousness that seemed to affect every part of play.
The only time that really seemed to happen Friday was the third set when a couple SEs, a hitting error and a net violation let Kentucky off the hook down the stretch. Kentucky was just playing really well at that point in the match. The bro change had a big effect. Badgers has to come back in both sets to take the lead.
That said, not having Molly in those situations makes me feel more uneasy.

Rainbows are wheels up for Milwaukee! Hoping that RainbowToddler naps on the way there.

Obviously, serving tough will be a key for the Badgers. Marquette doesn't have the go to left side they did when they won in 2019, although Werch had a good match then and is still around, but they do have a lot of of firepower when in system but would like to go middle/right a lot, much like Wisconsin does.

Badgers backrow has to hold up. I noticed on rewatching with Pete Waite's commentary that Kentucky really targeted Boyer later in the match on Friday, and it wore her down a bit which gave Kentucky a bit of foothold in the SR game. They also started finding Loberg when the badgers were trying to pass three. Badgers often then shifted to two person SR because it just simplified things, but that put stress on Boyer too, I think. The shorter serving strategy did have an effect, although it wasn't decisive in the end.
We'll see what Marquette does. It depends a lot on how UW lines up, and who knows what that will be?

I really don't expect Orzol to play. But that is just a hunch based on nothing in particular.

Just got into our seats. Witnessed a hit-and-run rear ending outside while we were in line. Dude in a navy SUV rear-ended a Lexus SUV, then peeled out and drove away.

Orzoł doing warm-ups.
I love Dildine’s shades - she wears them specifically so she doesn’t go blind in the lights when hitting down balls.
