Just watched the semis, CA v Texas. Is it just me, or did Casebeer look off? REALLY off. I guess it’s off-season, so prob not jumping like mid season form. Peter looked really strong. Casey made the comment between sets that he was giving Jeremy too much tempo and trapping him a bit. Jeremy needs a big high 5 and he’s not a natural right sider. Plus I believe both of these 4 mans he has come in not having played much volleyball at all. Don’t think he trains as much as the others because he’s focused on other things.

I also agree it completely takes the shine off the enjoyment having already known the results. If they can find a way to turn these quicker and keep the results hush hush then you really have something but not sure exactly how you make that happen in this day and age.

They need to keep that aspect of their operations going. However, I agree with you that their regular approach didn't work here. Rather than try to keep results a secret, my opinion is they need to find a way to produce live streamed or televised content for this type of event. Their post production videos to augment the live shows can be behind the scenes, highlight reels, etc.

Very interesting dialogue between Madison and some Old Schoolers about 4s on the Old School Volleyball FB page. Definitely check it out if you are interested in the old 4s tour as well as how this new thing may develop

I feel like since the McKibbins run everything they probably get to decide the teams. Haven't seen Hawaii highlights but have to assume Taylor Sander is big upgrade from Maddy. His serve looked great from few highlights I saw. I assume Hawaii would have just gone with 6 man squad and rotated? Riley would definitely set so Trevor would be dumped for sure. Riley has always said Taylor Crabb is his favorite player to set. Also Taylor Sander is not from Hawaii so technically the best real all Hawaiian lineup would be Taylor Crabb outside, Tri middle, Maddy right side and Riley setting, while Trevor %*$# talks from the sidelines. The guys from Out of System (Joe & Gage Worsley and Micah ma'a) said they want to get team and I think they would be really fun to see how those guys could compete. They dominated on the grass this summer but sand would be much tougher for them with their lack of size. Joe setting Micah would still be very tough to stop on any surface. They did poll to see who people think their 4th should be. They threw out adding Kofi (middle from UCLA) who played with Micah for some size. Hopefully we get to see these guys compete in this tourney going forward. In some instagram comments the McKibbins said they’ll include the OOS boys in the next tournament. And defalco said he’d play with them. So gage, joe, Micah + TJ. Seems like a tiny team but lots of ball skills and great setting so should be a fun time. I’m really hoping a few more 4 man events actually happen, this format of volleyball isn’t going to replace 2s, but it’s so much fun and a great supplement when the AVP isn’t holding many events

It’s not even searchable anymore. Curious what’s being discussed about this. I was a big fan of the bud light 4s tour back in the day, and the McKibbins would be wise to listen to those who were involved.

Jeremy also didn’t have enough room behind the baseline to take his normal serve approach. Kind of surprised they squeezed in a court at that location. And I agree that right side is not his natural position, though he did block well. But the fact that all of these teams have some players playing out of position (Beranek hitting middle?) leads me to believe they are beatable. I’m torn on the subject of live stream vs delayed video. It would be impossible to keep the results quiet, especially if their goal is to attract paying spectators (as it should be). Seems like there’s a real opportunity for a well produced live stream, but obviously wouldn’t be at the level of these videos. But I would probably watch even a low quality live stream and then would be less likely to watch the finished product. I do like the idea of making the after video more about interviews and behind the scenes, but I wonder if it would be compelling enough after seeing the action.

Mostly about rules, the structure of the game etc. I have been surprised in the McKibbin versions to see the style of play is very different from the old Bud 4 Man tour and there was some discussion of the best way to play 4s. Apparently one of the earliest 4 man events (prior to the Bud tour) feared a team of Smith/Stoklos/Kiraly/Hovland, which I was interested to hear about

Watching the women’s semifinal, Angela Bensend played really well with lesser players around her and looked to be in excellent shape. If the AVP manages to put on a reasonably complete season next year, I’d love to see her back on tour.
Other than that, Kloth was pretty much unstoppable. Nuss and Quiggle kept balls in play and Falyn was steady, but Taryn was the clear MVP for me.

Wonder how he injured it?

In my opinion the Beard Bros are killing the hype around this event and the content with these huge lulls between release dates.
I’ve lost interest at this point
