If the Michigan team from sets 3 & 4 in Minneapolis are on the court tonight a Minnesota win will require the kind of team performance they are capable of, but one that has rarely been in evidence this season.
MN's passing will have to perform reasonably consistently
Shaff will have to pay more than lip service to her MBs and
the MBs will have to prove they can terminate to prevent a blocking wall at the left pin so that
Wenaas will have to not shrink into tentativeness when facing adversity
If the MN middle can't/doesn't get going then sets to the left pin will have to get wider so the line is more accessible and the block tooling that comes with that and/or Landfair & Wenaas can get shorter, quicker with sets inside.
The MN hitting % has to improve. You might beat NW hitting under .200, but I doubt you beat MI without .240+. just guessing
and how about sideout %s over 60, eh?
MN was presented with a clear picture of where they need to improve last weekend. Measurable progress Friday night will help their confidence even if they don't prevail because MI outperforms their season baseline.
When Purdue & IL go five sets twice in a week you have to give credit to growing parity in the league. I hope MN wins, but I hope even more, that the team can play closer to its potential win or lose.
