Also playing Crowl at RS and having Samedy move to OH could be an option. There are still quite a few chess pieces that Hugh could move around. The OH depth isn't as dire as some people think. You're right. If Miyabe hadn't come back, everything would be just swell. Just play Samedy where she has never played before and use the frosh who hasn't even played this year. Do you not think Samedy could play OH? Do you not think Crowl is talented enough to hang this year?

Obviously they both COULD play, but would the Gophers be OK in such a situation? No.
Samedy has never played OH. Crowl has not played a D1 match in her life. The statement was "The team is fortunate Miyabe chose to come back. They would have had no depth at OH when Landfair was injured." How is that not true? Furthermore, they don't have a viable backup plan NOW, other than Glenn as a LH outside or burning Crowl's redshirt.
Nothing outrageous here. Not sure why you think everything would be fine.
This team has no real depth at DS or at setter as it is. It needs everyone healthy. Sure would be nice to have a season where that happened.

I think things would be fine because I believe in the depth of talent the Gophers currently have.
Your statement is predicated on Miyabe coming back. If she didn't come back maybe Crowl doesn't redshirt because they would have to play her. A lefty OH isn't unheard of, definitely more common than a lefty Middle so Glenn is also in play. I'm saying that even if Miyabe hadn't come back, the Gophers would have had viable options. Your comment wasn't outrageous... I just happen to see it from a different perspective.

When Hugh first became the head coach at the U of Minnesota and began to introduce us to a fast paced offense, I thought WOW he might be onto something. How many years later and it now seems every top/elite program is doing the same. Yes, more girls are playing the sport and in many cases are much taller. It also appears undersized OH's, if recruited, can be struggling to get playing time in those top programs.
The top 10 recruits in the past have gravitated to Stanford, Nebraska and Texas. I have said it before there is a reason they are a top 10 recruit. And, fortunately, our program at Minnesota is seeing some of those recruits. However, to continue to stay on top, these recruits need to be healthy and stay healthy and remain injury free while playing at an expected top level.
I want to see this program succeed as much as anyone else, but I feel they also need other players that can compliment the top talent Minnesota is recruiting. Our coaches need to continue their recruiting process but UP IT MORE THAN EVER. IMO the larger the roster the better. So Hugh and company RECRUIT, RECRUIT, RECRUIT!!

Here’s the biggest problem with Steph on the left (leaving aside that you need someone else to play on the right, and that she’s never had to pass in college). If she’s going to be receiving serves (and I’ll bet she’d be quite good at it) she’s going to be targeted every single serve in order to wear her down. She’s already carrying a huge load offensively and defensively, and now she’d have to pass every ball, too? It’s unimaginable that they would try that now.

Hugh's recruiting has been top notch and will continue with the 22's that are coming next year. The only problem with all that talent is making sure you have girls that are okay not playing.

While I agree, the flipside is that you don't want kids who are TOO comfortable with not playing.
All of this leads back to my comment about Wenaas in the other thread: The Gophers cannot afford for her to lose her position to Wucherer. They need her to be a top 3 recruit, like she was last night (and has been in many matches). Landfair to the right with Wucherer and Wenaas as your OHs remains the best lineup in 2022, imo.
I have no idea if Booth has continued her development or if she peaked, but they need her to be good too if Rubright continues to struggle. Or Wolf. Or both.
Does anyone know why McMenimen was playing as a DS in this match? Just to give Steph a breather? Because that was an interesting choice.

If they host, that means they did get a seed. And they would host not just the first round but the first two. Apologies, I was wrong, yes if you get top 16 you host the first round. Two matches are played in the first round and then two more are played in the next round. I'm saying round as location. Don't care if that's technically wrong, everyone knows what I mean, and I'll continue to say it that way and everyone will continue to know what I mean.
So, I'm saying it will be like 2019 again. Except this time we won't get super lucky that Louisville had its Super Bowl against Texas, and then had nothing left for the Gophers in the next match. We just won't make it out of that next location, where we'll be on the road.

Right now they need to prepare for every single team in the B1G otherwise we may not make a regional at all.

Not as crazy as calling a regional semi-final or final "the second round." No, we won't know that's what he meant.

And we have one of the best environments/crowds to host a first round (4 team bracket) before hitting the road for the next round (4 team bracket). That plays a part in who gets the first round hosting.
