Short recap
Trentino 3-0 Monza
Domination from Trentino... Monza's offense had trouble navigating Trentino's defense. Trentino won serve/pass and their block was solid. Pretty clean offense and a well managed match by Sbertoli.
Piacenza 3-1 Modena
Pretty close match between the two. Piacenza slightly better in most categories... Stern was really effective off the bench and the left sides were solid (sadly, no Russell). Leal and Mazzone didn't have great matches IMO.
Milano 3-1 Lube
Also another close match, with Milano's block and serve helping them a lot. Looking at the stats, Lube out-passed Milano, but IMO Milano weathered the tough Lube serves well. Milano's middles were great, and wow Jaeschke! He hit 16-4-34 (0.353), passed 56/28, and had 2 aces. Mr. Speraw, I hope you're taking notes.
Taranto 3-0 Verona
Nice win for Taranto. It was a blistering offense for them, as their team hit over .500 on the match! They also had a whopping 14 blocks. Verona was pretty solid from the service line and in reception, but could not keep up with Taranto.

hopefully this means Jaeschke is finally fully healthy. think I said it earlier but I really hope he keeps that health and this form going through the summer. if he's playing like this at the WCh that would be great.

Piacenza has TOTALLY mishandled Russell this year. I wonder if they are trying to make him leave or try to get out of his contract. It smells fishy. |

Lube end the match with a sweep of Piacenza: 17-25, 28-30, 21-25.
Kind of expected more with the way Piacenza played in the Coppa Italia QFs against Modena. Oh well.

Are there still concerns about his fitness? No. Bernardi refuses to work him into the lineup...and/or its coming from above. What a shame. I read somewhere here that maybe the plan was to ease him into the lineup in the middle of the season leading into playoffs, but clearly that hasn't happened. |

In Bernardi's defense, they did try to start Russell at he beginning of the season, and have brought him in a bit. The team is just better with the Rossard/Holt pairing of foreigners. Back in November I was calling for Russell to head to Taranto... not sure they can afford that, though.

Modena got eliminated from the CEV Cup by Kevin Tillie and Tours.
All they have left to play for now is the Scudetto.
