I have to give Ofoegbu some credit. She looks vastly improved from her frosh to covid soph year.

If the move is to truly make her an OH then they should simply let her work on hitting, hitting, and hitting from the OH position or OPP position. Someone needs to take reps at the OH position ASAP for Hawaii because next year, BVS is gone and to think we'll have Wagoner as the lone starter back as OH is scary. Saving a 2022 scholarship for a six rotation transfer OH would have been ideal If Westerberg is going to improve her attacking then this current Hawaii coaching staff isn’t the one. I’m not saying they are bad but none of them have a true hitting background.

RAM is the one of the top-dog's when it comes to snagging top transfers, so there is HOPE.

Here is a name who could quite possibly be an assistant coach, Tita Ahuna. Has head coaching experience. Team Captain of the 1987 NCAA Championship team. Outside Hitter, all around player.

But she needs technical training. Her arm swing is also very lacking but not as bad as Westerberg.

Sorry, but if Robyn does not move Westerberg back to the Middle, I feel Westerberg may not see the floor the next 2 years. I mean, the Wahine will have Riley Wagoner, Mia Johnson, and the incoming Freshman, on the outside, with quite possibly Leoniak there also. At Opposite, the Wahine will have de Goede and Demirtas. So where will that put Westerberg, if she stays as an Outside Hitter, no where. Her best bet would be to compete with Kiraly for that 2nd Middle position.

Good win for the bows. Glad we weren't playing UCSB or CP tonight. These back to back matches are a real disadvantage for Hawaii. Having a day between matches would be better. Really hope to see Leo get more playing time. Not sure that this current lineup is good enough to win the BWC.

Tita was a head coach at HPU and won ncaa div II title. Not sure if she could play second fiddle to someone younger and less coaching experience than her. I could also be 100% wrong.

This team reminds me a lot of the 2004 team. They keep finding ways to win, even if it isn't pretty. Certainly not a great match but like others have said, a win is a win. For UCI, really impressed with Umeh and Ofoegbu. Great players with cannons for arms. Umeh reminds me a lot of a player back with NMSU who was just an athletic right side. But she has so much craftiness to her game. Ofoegbu was a top 50 player in her class, so no surprise with her. I knew UCI would be a good blocking team but I didn't think they would cause this much trouble for Hawaii's hitters. And given their youth, I really hope to see them do well next year.
For Hawaii, I think the challenges they face this year will only help for the future. Wagoner didn't hit for a great percent, but she lead Hawaii in kills for the past 2 matches. She can only improve into next year. And it's good that Akana rebounded after a bad match against UCSD. 11 kills on a .227 hitting percent is what is needed. It's over 2 kills a set on a reasonable hitting percent. A couple of timely errors that hurt Hawaii but overall, I can't complain much about it.
Agree with most of the criticisms that have been made. Surprised Hawaii's block isn't better. I thought this would have been a prime match for the block given most of the sets go to Umeh. Serves need more bite. I was fine with float serves, but the conference opponents look to be handling the serve reasonably well. And passing and defense can be tighter. Not sure what Ah Mow is going to do to help them improve, but with Cal Poly next week and UCSB the following, it's going to be a tough couple of weeks for Hawaii. UCSB especially is going to be tough given how well they have been playing lately. And with Hawaii dropping sets, Hawaii will either need to sweep the series with UCSB to get the auto bid or split with UCSB and hope someone else beats them (all while not losing themselves). Not sure my heart can take this much stress over the course of the season.

I can't with this team anymore haha. Amber needs to think about her future and transfer to a school that's going to get her the recognition she deserves. The rest of these girls can keep pretending they're in high school. Tf

I really like when Lang side set the ball over on 2. She should do that way more when Igiede is next to her. Every opponent is so focused on Amber’s hitting that they wouldn’t ever be focused on Lang. She should even do it when she’s back row (ala Nikki Hubbert 1998). The middle of the court is so open….I’d just like to see her be more offensively aggressive. Akana hit hard but she needs to work on her line hits on the left and more wrist snap on her swings. I used to love UOP’s Melanie Beckenhaur-hellers side set / set the ball over on 2.
