In my day we weren’t even allowed to cover them with tape, had to take them out no matter what. It was always pitched as safety. It definitely seems like players can just opt to cover them instead of take them out even if they’re not new. I think Demps has her nose ring covered too. It always surprises me how much jewelry professional/Olympic players wear!

The funny thing is that it's supposed to be for safety, but do you think athletic tape stops it from wedging up into your nose / ear or from cutting another player? Nope. The whole thing is super silly. |
