Nothin' wrong with Lexi's right side block move. I don't think blocking skill level is keeping her on the bench. Cook has said she may be the best blocking OH in the nation.

Just got back from the match. Nebraska serve is absolutely ridiculous in person, and Cook attacked the ILL libero all night. I thought Madi was phenomenal, but my immediate concern is sooner or later she will have an off night and we’re going to need some production from the other OH. Hopefully Batenhorst/Sun can start to provide some more consistency. Schedule is about to amp up, but this was a solid sweep against a decent Illini team.

You have to remember Caffey was out last two Matches. With how Krause and Batenhorst have been performing (tonight withstanding) I’m pretty confident in our 6-2 rotations. I think Stivrins needs more touches personally.

It’s not like we take an enormous hit with Caffey out and Schwarzenbach in. I’m glad you have confidence, but my opinion still remains that I feel we need more consistency from the OH position aside from Madi. As well as she has been playing, an off night will occur. And with the upcoming schedule, we wouldn’t win without production from the second OH. Krause doesn’t concern me at all she has been consistent..

I think we do fine with Callie in as well, but it’s a major difference offensively and certainly helps the L2. Batenhorst struggled tonight but I do think she’s been consistently pretty solid.

I really wish JC would leave Ally B. in to work through her inconsistency. As a rookie, she needs real game experience to develop her game. Throwing Sun a bone with meaningless minutes when the game is no longer in question is not doing either of them any favors.

Post Match Presser. Madi Kubic and Lexi Rodriguez John Cook at 15:15 A few weeks back, there was some general griping on VT about Emily Ehman saying a particular player was "shotty." The term wasn't ever really defined that I recall, but my sense is that it meant having a good variety of shots, and using them at opportune times.
Well, I was a bit surprised to hear Lexi in that presser refer to Nebraska player(s) as shotty. Maybe it's making its way into the younger generation's vernacular.

Throwing Sun a bone with meaningless minutes when the game is no longer in question is not doing either of them any favors. I have to respectfully disagree. We have to keep Sun prepared, physically and mentally, for potential emergency duty. Can you imagine how hard it is to go from star player for years (and #1 recruit) to bench warmer who almost never sees the court - in your 5th year of college?? If the almost never becomes never, I think Nebraska is weakened as a result. And by the way, we could use the argument that Sun should be starting so she can work out her inconsistency. As a script writer, I'm tempted to write a movie about this situation. It would be a fascinating character study, both for the coach and players involved. The question is whether to make it predictable and have the bench warmer get pressed into service and lead her team to the national championship? Personally I think Batenhorst may be the former starter riding the pine in a season or two as new recruits arrive and Whitney L becomes more consistent with her "kabooms" as JB calls them.
