I really wish JC would leave Ally B. in to work through her inconsistency. As a rookie, she needs real game experience to develop her game. Throwing Sun a bone with meaningless minutes when the game is no longer in question is not doing either of them any favors. I have to respectfully disagree. We have to keep Sun prepared, physically and mentally, for potential emergency duty. Can you imagine how hard it is to go from star player for years (and #1 recruit) to bench warmer who almost never sees the court - in your 5th year of college?? If the almost never becomes never, I think Nebraska is weakened as a result. And by the way, we could use the argument that Sun should be starting so she can work out her inconsistency. As a script writer, I'm tempted to write a movie about this situation. It would be a fascinating character study, both for the coach and players involved. The question is whether to make it predictable and have the bench warmer get pressed into service and lead her team to the national championship? Personally I think Batenhorst may be the former starter riding the pine in a season or two as new recruits arrive and Whitney L becomes more consistent with her "kabooms" as JB calls them.

Sun has had 4-5 years to work it out…I think we have a good sense of her ceiling.

Please don’t make a movie on the most boring topic on this board. She’s a good player that has been beaten out by better players. It’s no more complicated than that. I don’t like Lexi, I don’t dislike Lexi, I don’t root for her to fail, as a non Nebraska fan I don’t root for her to succeed like anyone on Nebraska, maybe she will come in and hit the winning point for the NC, what do any of us know and I don’t make it a habit of predicting what other people will do. But until then please don’t turn this boring soap opera subject to anything other than fodder on this board.

So you evidently think that Batenhorst won't get anymore consistent than what she is now?

So you evidently think that Batenhorst won't get anymore consistent than what she is now? After watching Nebraska for a few matches, does Batenhorst really bring that much more than Sun? Sun’s confidence looks to be shot down which is understandable as she lost her starting role. But I’d argue that a warm and confident Sun gives Nebraska much more than a Batenhorst who is “working out her inconsistency.”

But I’d argue that a warm and confident Sun gives Nebraska much more than a Batenhorst who is “working out her inconsistency.” she hit like .715% against Indiana and she hit like .355% against PSU with 15K in her first road game against a B1G ranked team. Rutgers game wasn’t impressive, nor was Illinois. But that inconsistency is done with Sun as well, with a .355% w 15K usually absent unless they’re playing NW or Iowa.

While those stats are impressive for a freshman those are only two matches albeit important matches. I won’t diminish thE fact that she did well in those matches but overall their stats are similar offensively. I feel like Sun can bring decent passing and good blocking and even a tough serve (though Knuckles has really upped her service pressure.) All in all, I guess this is a good dilemma to have for Nebraska.

I love Ally D & Lexi S; and you can bet that the coaches are working with both of them! They will be fine!

Just got back from the match. Nebraska serve is absolutely ridiculous in person, and Cook attacked the ILL libero all night. I thought Madi was phenomenal, but my immediate concern is sooner or later she will have an off night and we’re going to need some production from the other OH. Hopefully Batenhorst/Sun can start to provide some more consistency. Schedule is about to amp up, but this was a solid sweep against a decent Illini team. I really wish JC would leave Ally B. in to work through her inconsistency. As a rookie, she needs real game experience to develop her game. Throwing Sun a bone with meaningless minutes when the game is no longer in question is not doing either of them any favors. Thought about this a little more after watching some replays last night--I truly think Batenhorst just needs set higher. Too often she's having to drop that arm (at least when she's blocked) but when she gets that high set she's either over the block or smashing it off high hands.
