Nebraska records watch
• Nicklin Hames, who enters the week with 3,953 assists, needs just 35 more to pass Greichaly Cepero for third all-time for career assists. Cepero had 3,987 from 1999-2002. • Callie Schwarzenbach moved up to sixth for career blocks (392) at Nebraska in the rally-scoring era Saturday, passing Brooke Delano's 389 from 2007-11. • Lauren Stivrins sits at 1,116 career kills. On NU's rally-scoring era career kills list, she needs five to tie Karen Dahlgren (1,121 -- 1983-86) for 19th and six to match Amber Holmquist (1,122 -- 1999-2002) for 18th.

Is this going to be a close match? No, shouldn’t be close at all. I thought the Husker N and the circular Hawkeye logo looked like a "NO"

Is it my perception or does Nebraska usually start off with lower tier teams from the B10 earlier in conference play? Before anyone says Penn St isn’t a lower tier team I’m not saying that it just seems like it’s usually heavy on the back end of the schedule. Maybe for the drama of TV ratings later in the season, with a younger team it seems to help allowing the freshman time to gel before the heart of the schedule.

Any thoughts on how this match will go in terms of where the sets will go? Continuing the trend of heavy dosage of Madi or try to get a few other players involved and in the flow before the big tests start soon?
Batenhorst has not had many swings the past two matches and overall it seems like she’s only had one big match versus Penn State. I wonder if there’s still questions behind the scenes of who should be playing that starting position as no one has really seized it yet. I assume Lexi got playing time in the third more so because nothing much was happening production wise from Batenhorst…either that or Hames feels more comfortable going elsewhere vs Batenhorst. Lexi comes in for 2/3 of a set and gets almost as many swing attempts as Batenhorst did over 2 1/3 sets. I realize Madi had the hot hand but last few matches have been blowouts and it seems like that would be the time to get players like Batenhorst goiing.
I would almost like to see Krause on the strong side and Whitney on the weak side to see how that goes as they both seem to have some powerful swings.

No team has any say about their schedule in the Big 10. That is determined by the conference in advance of the season. Whether or not they try to enhance the drama of the season by creative scheduling is open to conjecture, but my guess is that geographical/travel considerations are of primary importance.

I wasn’t implying NU had anything to do with the schedule it was just a general question.

In 2015-2018 it certainly wasn’t the case. But this year, and in the spring I would say Nebraska had an easier start to the schedule. I do think tougher matches later in the season might be better for TV, especially with the Big Ten title on the line. So maybe the schedulers try to save some big matches for the last few weekends?
