27 kills by PSU middles. Damn Must be nice to have a coaching staff that recognizes the obvious.

Samedy tip on match point? Oof. She's a generational athlete, though.
Did you see how she could fly through the air from the back row ..... to tip. Got some points off it. It was neat, and crafty.

MN is the Hellman’s of the B1G They bring out the best…from their opponents! If you had a chance to watch MSU’s Franklin & Max-Brown on Wed or Orzol almost any night you have to admire the “no prisoners” I am going for it attitude At some point this weekend I will chart the FBSOs Both teams hit above their weight and blocks were hard to come by but the real difference was how much harder MN had to work for their points PSU played great in every day facet except blocking Blossom’s sets were converted into kills more readily I suspected MN might not be able to match their opp’s intensity. Should we be glad we bring out their best? MN will have to increase their serving pressure vs OSU on Sunday or Podraza will have a field day We will be 0-2 this weekend without an extra-ordinary effort 2 bright spots Miyabe Shaff’s less routine sets to Wenaas Should definitely not expect our middle's to have much of an offensive impact.
It's been a winning move by the coaching staff, this season and last. I can't believe they didn't implement it sooner.

Samedy has had few bright moments the last few matches. She's not swinging aggressively at much anymore. Our OH have been doing pretty well, but without a middle attack they're just running the hamster wheel. I agree with another poster that changing setters might help. But I also don't think that is a long term solution.

Good things tend to happen when you hit the ball and not try to tip or roll the ball back to your opponent. Take a lesson from Joni Parker, love her game as she continues to be an aggressor throughout the match. You'd think the Gophers would have learned that by now but they continue to do it especially late in sets.

Scheduling these matches two hours apart needs to be reevaluted for next season. Wisc-OSU is supposed to start in 9 mins and we literally just finished a three set match. As long as it involves moving the first match earlier. But then you could have an hour to fill.

The stat post is up.
Color me surprised that MN won the first ball side out number. Then there are the kills in transition. Hugh was quoted in the Strib: "This year, the level of parity and competitive balance in the conference is the best since I've been here. There are a lot of good teams in the conference," said McCutcheon. "It's a battle every night." the battle is for the first kill. When the lower half of the conference, Maryland, NW, MSU, and Indiana all have terminators just keeping the ball in play is risky.
A number of comments have been made re. the quality of Shaff's sets. There was a graphic in the broadcast that Shaff is maybe 4th in the league in assists/set. Cases in point: At 25-26 in the second set Shaff received a pass and set a "D" to Samedy that was coming down 9' from the net. The set could not lead to an attack. At 2-3 in the third, maybe the next opportunity, the set was 7' from the net and Samedy drilled Rollins in the chest.
At 24-23 in the second Shaff had an opportunity to give Myers a quick in the middle but the ball was not set in front of her. This is not the kind of play where the MB waits to see where the ball is going. You go up and either the set is there to be pounded or it isn't.
Then there was the previously mentioned "oof" at matchpoint when Samedy couldn't (or didn't?) attack and tipped. Ceding tempo to quality opponents doesn't cut it in the B1G any more or in the NCAA tourney
The problematic rotation: Miyabe on the right, before she rotates out, and Samedy on the left can be solved if Samedy gets a ball she can drive for a FBSO. I know she got one in the third set. Why isn't it more routine? Earlier, when they couldn't side out, they somehow reverted and I believe Miyabe got a kill maybe on a gap set on the left. I was at the match and haven't rewatched in real time.
To come up with the stats above I ran at 1.75x off youtube and don't remember. If someone would cue me up to the timestamp of that sequence I would appreciate it.
Wenaas had a reception error at 10-13 in the third. Was that serve going to drop in. A good hitter in baseball will sometimes NOT SWING at a slider they know they won't be able to hit. It may or may not be a strike. In the heat of the moment you make decisions. I don't think that was a good one.
The Miyabe high hands touch - no touch at 20-20 in the third was so unfortunate. Unless MN can learn to close out the close sets down the stretch I think they will end up on the road for the entire NCAA tournament.
It would certainly help if the Gopher's opponents stopped playing so well!

With all due respect to Landfair, missing her is not why Minnesota lost. Minnesota got plenty of production from both OH's tonight. There is more to the story and there's a lot that Minnesota NEEDS before Landfair. More competition at the setter position wouldn't hurt. Shaffmaster feels too secure, untouchable, she is there for the next 3 seasons (yes, the COVID year too), she knows it and she doesn't feel threatened. In any case, it's the passers fault, isn't it? Or the middles, that can't terminate. More pressure also on the staff. Its' like there is always something else to blame if results don't come- injuries, schedule, ...Unthinkable that maybe the coaches are not doing a good job (obviously they aren't, the talent is there). Landfair: interesting situation. Is she really hurt, at the point she can't play? Or is the best way right now to use it as an excuse since results don't come? So because Shaff knows she’s not coming out she’s not playing as hard or well? You do realize these are high achieving hyper competitive athletes? I’m guessing she needs no external motivations and is just a good, not great setter.

It would certainly help if the Gopher's opponents stopped playing so well! Would also help if we used our middles as attackers, like we did in 2019 and previous years.
We have middles who can terminate. We've seen them do it.
That leaves one other position that has changes since the 2020 (2021 spring) season and this year .............
