NCAA DI volleyball committee to reveal top 10 this Sunday on ESPNU
The Division I Womenβs Volleyball Committee is set to reveal a top 10 ranking on Sunday, Oct. 31 between the second and third sets during the UCLA vs. Washington match that starts at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
The announcement provides a first look at teams that could potentially earn some of the top seeds for the 2021 Division I Womenβs Volleyball Championship tournament. Sunday's rankings are based on results through Wednesday, Oct. 27.
Sunday's announcement will have no impact on the final bracket. That will be announced during the selection show at 8:30 p.m. ET Sunday, Nov. 28 on ESPNU.
The reveal is based on the criteria used to select and seed the 64 teams for the volleyball championship and includes strength of schedule, Rating Percentage Index, head-to-head competition, results versus common opponents, significant wins and losses, and locations of contests. Input is also provided by the regional advisory committees for consideration by the Division I Womenβs Volleyball Committee.

I think Texas, Louisville, Pitt, Wisconsin, and Kentucky (not necessarily in order) are the top 5. outside of that I feel like the next 5 will be very interesting because the AVCA poll isnβt really a factor.

I'm not sure why Tennessee was given its own choice line. It would seem their chance of making the top 10 is poor enough that they belong in "other".
At #11, Minny is the highest AVCA ranked team not to get its own line. But they already have six losses and have to play the Huskers today. The B1G isn't getting much RPI help, so I think leaving them off is correct.
I'm surprised only nine votes for GT. Right now, I think the committee puts them at #10, just above Purdue. Both of those teams play matches tomorrow that could easily change perspective.

This "event" has kind of a problematic history. Some real head-spinning differences between the list as revealed and what is eventually done by the committee.
In 2019 they named Creighton #10. They went 5-1 after that and were completely unseeded. (It was kind of a bad loss, but still, to go from top-10 to unseeded due to one loss?)
Then there was the year they announced Nebraska in the top 4, Nebraska went undefeated after this, and ended up not being seeded in the top 4.

I went back to peek at the week 9 RPI futures thread to list the teams in this thread, along with their expected record and RPI rank:
1. Pittsburgh (26-3) 2. Louisville (26-2) 3. Wisconsin (26-2) 4. Texas (23-2) 5. Baylor (20-5) 6. Georgia Tech (22-6) 7. Kentucky (22-6) 8. BYU (27-2) 9. Tennessee (22-6) 10. Ohio State (24-6) 11. Nebraska (22-7) 13. Purdue (20-9) 17. UCLA (22-6) 23. Minnesota (18-10) 25. Penn State (20-10) 26. Washington (22-6)
You can see why the Vols were included on their own line, even though they already have six losses now(their projected number at season end). Note that GT is figured to end at #6 with a 22-6 record. They would have to go 4-3 in their last 7 matches to get there. The RPI is very unkind to Washington. While the RPI is not the sole indicator of committee ranking, it is their primary starting point. Straying from it greatly is likely to be inaccurate.
