DeGoede will be a weapon for Hawaii especially as a lefty on the rightside. I am a little bummed that Devin Kahahawai chose Texas, not sure if Hawaii was heavily recruiting her, but she would be a big help on Hawaii out next year on the leftside. Not to be a jerk, but if Texas was recruiting her, Hawai'i probably was too. Wisconsin has lost some recruiting battles to them too down the line, which hurts. 100% RAM would have reached out to the number 1 recruits from Hawaii, as long as they try to keep local players here I am happy. But some local players don't want to stay home, and that is alright.

As a fan of the Wahine as my second favorite program, Igiede and BVS are the stand outs at this point. Lang is progressing well, but her game is getting the ball to the middles or getting the pins hittable sets. Williams has made a lot of progress working with her since the start of the season. BVS does the most with the sets to the pins or the pipe at this point. Ikenaga is solid. Gong is disruptive as a server and picks up balls off that, to her credit. Wagoner is better in 6 rotations that she may be given credit here for, in my opinion. Leoniak is inconsistent now but has a lot of potential. The team will miss BVS a lot next year, but Leoniak could develop into a 6 rotation OH, with more training, and that leaves Dimirtas and DeGoede with more training on the right. Kiraly is clearly an option in the middle. I hear they have another defensive player coming in, which will make it all work. Plus, just a normal spring for them I think will be huge. I will say that the time just Igiede has spent on the beach has saved A LOT of points for the Wahine this fall! DeGoede will be a weapon for Hawaii especially as a lefty on the rightside. I am a little bummed that Devin Kahahawai chose Texas, not sure if Hawaii was heavily recruiting her, but she would be a big help on the leftside for Hawaii. i think she’s (devin) a bit overrated. talented but no eggleston or skylar fields.

So anyone know what happened to Akana tonight? I didn’t see her on the sidelines.

You mean that collision with Lang? Gong 8 digs, Ikenaga 4 digs What qualifies as a dig? I swear I follow the stats and sometimes Ikenaga has 2-3 digs in a rally, where her dig actually leads to Lang setting a hitter. But when I check stats, she gets credited with one dig.

But when I check stats, she gets credited with one dig. A pass is when a defensive player is receiving the ball from a serve. They don't keep track of how many passes you do, but to pass well, that's a prized skill. International/pro level, they grade how well you pass a serve for pass efficiency. A perfect pass is a 3. A dig is when a defensive player "passes" the ball from an attack (hit, dink, off the tape). Tayli is one of the primary passers, as are Janelle, Riley, and Brooke.

I really loved that play where it’s Brooke, Idiege, and Lang in the front. BVS, as the off blocker, came to dig up a tip and stayed on that side for Lang to set her. All they need to do is fix the blocking but Idiege got lucky with a solo block. Here’s the clip everything about the sequence was fun to watch, because a lot of it was mad-dash, scramble and impromptu ... bvs hurrying over from left-front to pick up the tip, then quickly getting up for the hit on the right side. then igiede with the solo roof to finish, since both bvs and lang were out of position at that point.

Went to my first match in 2 years and was so happy to be there! My thoughts from last nights match: very disappointed in the amount of fans! I'm a season ticket holder in the lower bowl and almost all the season tickets holders in my lower bowl area were no shows. People that I've sat next to for years. On the positive side the fans that were there were very loud and energetic especially the student section! So that was good to see. I like to arrive when the SSC opens at 6pm so I can watch the players warm up. Some random thoughts/observations from warmups: Leo is the tallest player on the team even taller than Ilayda! Westerberg can't pass - shanking balls all over during passing drills. Mia Johnson bombs in warmups. I hope she can get her passing together because she's got a hammer. Same for Kiraly. She looks really good in warmups - very athletic and hits a heavy ball. Speaking of heavy balls - Ilayda hits a heavy ball also and has a very nice jump serve. She needs to work on her vertical though because she'd have trouble jumping over the morning paper. Didn't see Akana at all last night so not sure what's up with that. Joy Umeh for Irvine is pretty special. She's listed at 5'8" but she's got some hops and a live arm. Going to be fun watching her the next few years. The local girl Bailey Darnell played really well last night. She represented. Other than that the highlight of the evening for me was BVS solo stuffing UCI's 6'4" oppo. That was amazing and made the crowd go wild. Quote of the day from BVS about that block: "I’m smaller and everyone thinks it’s a free net when it’s just me,” Van Sickle said. “But peek-a-boo. I’m there.".....LOL.....

Irvine is young...hopefully they can develop over the next few years and be a contender for the conference on a yearly basis.
Ogfobu looks to be a gainer. She reminds me of one of the Cuban middle blockers from the 90s- Torres or Carvajal.

One of the few bright spots for Irvine last night.....

I believe if you have to be fully vaccinated. You have to download the LumiSight app and upload your vaccination card to it. Then on game day you just answer a few questions about if you have any symptoms or not and then the app will say "You may report to campus". UH set up a table outside the SSC by the elevator and you just show them your LumiSight app that says "You may report to campus" and they give you a wristband then you head to the entrance and show them your ticket. They also had people roaming around that you can show the app to and get your wristband. It was really fast.

Also I’m excited for Johnson to make it into the lineup somewhere down the road.
