They're doing the NCAA draft during the Final Four.... that's uhhhh.... interesting...
also i hate it...
"Additional new players will be identified via the first ever Athletes Unlimited Volleyball College Draft, which will follow a format similar to the drafts conducted in Athletes Unlimited Softball and Lacrosse earlier this year. A total of 15 players who will have completed their NCAA eligibility in 2021 will be drafted during a live broadcast on Dec. 17, with the chance to be signed to the league for the 2022 season. The Volleyball College Draft will be streamed on YouTube and Facebook at 7 p.m. ET, and a live watch party will take place at the American Volleyball Coaches Association Convention in Columbus, Ohio."

I think im not sure how its going to work.... it seems like its going to be done (drafting) without their consent (so they'll draft, sign later) I hope players get to talk to agents before making any decisions. AU will be drafting before the NC match... so those players wont get to talk (formally anyways) to agents to discuss possibilities... and could feel pressured to just go with AU... I think we'll see some of the top NCAA players stay home... The European market isn't really buzzing.. and staying home is a lot easier than going over to Europe right away |

Sounds more like a military draft if we're being honest. Although that could add a layer of suspense to the proceedings if getting drafted by AU meant you can't play in Italy/Japan etc.

The committee will select the 15 players they want to invite to join AU. (I assume this is so then they dont have to ask college kids if they want to play... have too many sign up, etc) Being drafted by AU wont (or shouldnt) have any binding to not being able to play overseas... in the end.. it may be a marketing thing... Samedy and Rettke will get picked but they're going overseas (or most probably will lol) |
