Let's go ILLINI! Loving seeing Swanson back in the line-up and Whittington doing a great job of filling in for Collins. She gets her hands on a lot of balls. Many props to Coaches REED & TAMAS for helping mold these girls & to the girls themselves for buying in and putting in the WORK!

I predicted Illini in 3. My only hesitation is based on the matches in which Illinois starts slow. Any word on Collins? As well as Whittington is playing it should not make a difference tonight. It would be nice to have her back for the Michigan match.

Raina having a tough night, lots of hitting errors in the first set, is now getting into a groove. Illini win the second set 25-19.

Good pic to represent the match for the Illini. MB Maddie Whittington was "money" in the match. I found the IU announcers on B1G+ enthusiastic but annoying after awhile. I had to turn off the commentary to enjoy watching the match. The Hoosiers played better at home than they did at Illinois, and Aird seemed much more animated on the sidelines than he did in Huff. I wanted Illinois to reach 10 wins in this match. For me that was an important milestone to guarantee finishing no worse than .500 in the B1G. The Illini's final 3 B1G matches should all provide challenges. Maryland at home followed by Michigan and Michigan State away. All 3 of those teams will provide challenges for the Illini. |

Illini win in 3. On the road. Without Collins, the top MB. Last weekend here, Nebraska, the #1 team in the Big Ten, won in 4. Go figure.
Overall, the Illini have managed to put together a pretty nice season so far. Despite having two of their top 3 hitters (Holzman and Bruna) out all season, they're nationally ranked #24, have beaten Purdue and Penn State, have only one loss to a non-Top 20 team (Colorado), and are almost certain to make the playoffs. They definitely are inconsistent, so you can't tell on a given night which team is going to show up, the one that went 5 twice against Purdue, winning once, or the won that went 5 with Rutgers (and winning).
Understandable then that some of their fans are nervous...but not as nervous as some coach is going to be when they see Illinois in their bracket.

This team just needs some consistency. We are doing really well for missing what were possibly two of our maybe projected starters all season. I think we can win at least one in the tourney, maybe two. Next season we are going to be good - really good! |
