Must say… major props to Lang on working hard to connect with Igiede and Williams. The sets to the middle at the start of the year were absolute cringe - especially in Utah and the first half of conference. Igiede and Williams (thank God she’s back in the lineup) are hitting out of their mind and it’s because Lang is getting them sets literally from anywhere in front of the 3m line and they are able to terminate. When was the last time a UH middle duo put up the numbers they did against Bakersfield. Gaudy numbers to say the least. Credit also goes to the passers, but Lang is taking average passes and turning them into nector sets to the middle. Maybe never. Those numbers are ridiculously good!

Would not be surprised if Mia Johnson starts again, with Riley Wagoner coming in for her in the backrow this time. Riley Wagoner can still be offensive in the backrow by being available to hit the "Pipe" set, I think they call it. Starting to think this is what Robyn is leading up to, by starting Mia Johnson.
Do not really understand Robyn starting Akana, though, unless it was to just give BVS a little rest.

Can you imagine the connection between Lang and Igiede the next 2 years. Robyn will have to give the opposing team helmets. Amber will be just annihilating the ball. Hopefully, she will not hit any opposing team members where it will truly hurt.

Doable with Johnson/Wagoner, but I am not sure I would trust either Johnson to pass or the Wahine to go with 2 passers in at least one rotation. Made me think, on that, how good Akiu was in her one season with the Wahine.

Hopefully, she will not hit any opposing team members where it will truly hurt. Pin hitters and passers need to develop, though. On the other hand, Igiede could at some points maybe defeat a triple block like Sherisa Livingston did for the Badgers back in the day, by hitting over it.

I am pumped about the numbers, though, because I really want Igiede to make an All American team this year, and BVS too, of course.

Reading through this thread, very disappointed in a lot of you Wahine “Fans” not understanding the need to rest a couple players on a back to back game weekend. ESPECIALLY your 2 starting Outside Hitters who will likely take a ton of swings tomorrow if we are not able to get the ball to the middles as much as we did today. shame lol

FACT: We don't have any idea why RAM did not start BVS and Wagoner. BVS and Riley were not injured or sick. Robyn and staff are far from stupid/crazy. ASSUMPTION: Robyn and staff know exactly what the standings are. They know Bake is the 4th ranked team in conference and just beat the 3rd place team a couple of days ago. FACT: We have just gone through more than a baker's dozen of pages speculating why the lineup changes occurred. We don't know if it will happen tomorrow night. ASSUMPTION: We're not going to find out until some courageous reporter asks Robyn or the staff why and receives a definitive answer.
Some things I learned tonight: 1. Braelyn, Mia, and Tiff are still not quite ready for prime time, but they are improving. RAM and staff have done an unbelieveable job since the season began and now. With the whole team in general. 2. The coordination between Kate, Amber, and Sky has reached an all time high these past couple of weeks. 3. Amber can hang in the air on a mis-timed set (infrequently happens) and on the way down still slam the ball with pace and keep it in. Haven't seen another middle do that quite that way. 4. Sky is cranking up on how hard she's spiking. Impressive 5. Leo has also cranked it up a notch on her D set hits. 6. Overall, the Wahine is putting more pace on their serves. You can really see it on the camera angles behind the back line. Resulting in more disruption in the serve-receive, more blocks and more aces. Nice 7. Gong might have had a lot of reception errors but CSUB had some wicked servers. I believe they lead the conference in serving aces.

I get travel, I get a long season, but read the situation. There is only one Big West bid. Bakersfield is not a joke. I get that Poly may be a bigger threat, but this is a power through on the mainland kind of weekend to make sure the title does not come down to a must win versus UCSB.

No one said Bakersfield was a joke. From a coach’s perspective, especially at this point in the season you know that there is a group of players who know that the likelihood of them playing much through the end of the season is very little. Besides that, our middles are the leading this team currently as great as BVS is and has been. So it’s not like the currently most productive players weren’t playing. People in the thread were just saying very foolish things but i do have to assume that they are not coaches and have never had to make personnel decisions that are conducive towards the teams best OVERALL performance for the post season. Just think about back when Nikki Taylor went down vs Minnesota. Hawaii literally had no idea what to do and you could tell they were instantly defeated because of the lack of any solid backup plans. I would rather Coach start non regulars now, that have been getting consistent, MEANINGFUL reps in practice, still knowing they could come in at any time, than only giving them the practice reps and then God forbid something happen to a regular starter, especially a primary passer, and then whoever is thrown in there hasn’t played a real game in a month. There are several Top 5-10 NCAA teams that if this happened to them now, they would be early goners in the post season. This is why i respect Coach Robyn’s style so much, she demands a lot from all her players and doesn’t BS them about getting into the game if they are putting in the work. Whereas other programs and fans just relegate other players as benchwarmers with no value. Do better y’all, do better. After that Nebraska v Maryland situation, Hawaii needs to take their rightful claim as the best fans in the country.

With all respect to Bakersfield, that was one of the worst Division I volleyball venues I've seen. I mean, there are some very nice gyms out there ... but this one was claustrophobic. Also the blue wall and blue floor made it look like Hawaii was playing under water. Just needed to get that off my chest lol.

Good team, especially after a difficult D1 transition, but I said earlier I did not like the venue, and I stand by that!

After that Nebraska v Maryland situation, Hawaii needs to take their rightful claim as the best fans in the country. Really? Did you not watch the same game? As soon as BVS and Wagoner came on, they were performing like the typical Wahine team. Even the announcer said the same thing, that the feeling on the court was different. So why would you do that to the team especially when those games are really important. Like I said earlier, if the results were flipped and CSUB was up 2-1 going into the 4th, people would be in uproar. Nikki Taylor's incident was unfortunate and unexpected but she was the terminator for the team. You think that resting the girls for one game that the rest of the team are all going miraculously be terminators, passing well, serve receive like butter? No, and that wasn't the case. In fact, the blocks werent there and they were getting aced. When they were scoring, they evened it out with errors allowing mini runs for Bakersfield to catch up. You think theyre going to turn it around by resting your two main hitters? You see Texas, Pitt, Louisville, UCLA having them sit out their top hitters at this late in the season? I don't think so. Better to keep the consistent players in to maintain momentum.

I was stressing out the whole match. This thread was stressing out the whole match. But did anyone notice that during some crucial time outs . . . Robyn was smiling?! It was like, “okay kids, you in some trouble now!” 😄
At the very least, it made a potentially boring game very entertaining.
