Then why wasn't Robinson killing it when she was in the WCC? I think her going to Utah was the best thing for her and BYU. I have no inside information, but it appears to have worked out well for both. I was really high on her after watching her play in high school. She almost seemed to will her team to victories and made the big plays when it counted. She also did that for BYU against Texas in the final eight. She did some good things at BYU, but she was also frustrating to watch as a sophomore. She really didn't develop much from her freshman season to her sophomore season. I think playing in the PAC-12 in the role she has at Utah has been good for her. I'm glad she's doing well, but she was quite inconsistent at hitting/passing/serving during her sophomore season at BYU. Maybe it was just not a good match for either.

She's been better at Utah than I thought she'd be, but I don't think it was ever going to happen for her at BYU. Also, she wasn't that great against Texas. She had seven kills and hit .200. That was a pretty tough match, though, as really only RJP (easily the best player on the floor) and Gneiting were better. I think I remember some very timely kills, rather than her %!! That's how I remember it too. Kills when we needed them against the big block of Texas. It surprised them, her hitting those sharp angles with her size against their block. Now if we'd played them again, they probably would have defended it better, but maybe not entirely.

Robinson actually played pretty well against Texas in the regular season the next year. She had 13 kills on .290 hitting, and she was probably BYU's best hitter in that match (Miller only hit .167). I'm glad she was on the 2018 team, as she was fairly important after Miller went down. But she was just too inconsistent and error-prone as a sophomore. I agree with you that I think her transferring was probably the best thing for all parties involved.

3 rotations in the WCC versus 6 rotations in the Pac-12 is not the same thing... Robinson wasn't that great in the WCC either. She hit .204 in 2019, and I doubt Olmstead even tried to talk her out of transferring. In fact, as I recall, Robinson was the starter at OH2 for most of the season but had lost the job to Ballard-Nixon by the end of the season. I do not recall that she ever really lost the spot, at least during that season. Next season may have been different. Taylen was the first sub for that spot and had some good matches in relief that made me wonder why she didnāt get more playing time. She had a few starts, but was maybe 50/50 in how she played in those. She was not always good as a sub either, but I often wondered why Madi had a longer leash when she played poorly. Taylen could be timid and hesitant and lacking that go-after-it-no-matter-what mentality, but when she was just playing freely, she was very good. Madi was generally aggressive and fearless, though somewhat erratic. She made some timely kills, but also some untimely errors. I watched her hit too many back-row shots wildly out of bounds or in the net and laugh or shrug it off to not become a bit frustrated with how she was playing. I wondered in those moments how her teammates felt about it all. I couldnāt figure it out. She almost seemed too carefree mentally at times, if that makes sense. Yet Iād seen plenty proof of her fierce competitiveness. Maybe she needed a different coach/situation/system whatever.

TBN has me worried. She seems to have one shot-cross court. No high hands, no line, no tool the edges. I thought she had developed more shots š. Sheās regressed
