So I’m curious as to thoughts about the reasons women’s volleyball is so much more attended and seemly important to colleges compared to mens? And even if you took the whole Title IX aspects out of the equation I don’t think there would be as big a drop off as you might think. Most of women’s volleyball is unwatchable when you compare it to the men’s game. And with that truth then why are spectators going to the mens games more than the women’s?

Lots of people prefer watching womens VB. They like the rallys and I think it is easier to understand for someone that isn't really into the technical aspects. I appreciate the top women's teams and the international and pro leagues but most of NCAA is unwatchable to me. So many teams, the talent is too diluted compared to mens and other countries' pro leagues.

Most of women’s volleyball is unwatchable when you compare it to the men’s game. And with that truth then why are spectators going to the mens games more than the women’s? Easy. Not enough big name universities field men’s teams. ESPECIALLY in the states that have big followings for the women’s game. The Big West is the most competitive conference in the country but tbh that doesn’t mean much because California has really crappy indoor volleyball fans. And this is coming from a proud Californian. There simply isn’t the same sense of community and fellowship with local college games, besides maybe for USC football. Especially when you compare to Nebraska, Texas, Minnesota, Florida and others who have great fan bases drawn to their women’s indoor but don’t have men’s teams even though all of those schools could likely be Top 10 teams within a few recruiting cycles. If these specific power 5 schools started programs, you wouldn’t see top recruits go and waste their time underdeveloping on these huge Pepperdine, UCLA, etc rosters. CA has the talent but lacks the prep player humility to go out mid majors and try to lift them up to D1. I mean come on, if Concordia Irvine can do it and do next to nothing of note year after year, I’m sure others can get up there and have immediate success. If you bring out the best fans from the best fan areas, you boost the sports ability to actually be followed to the point of real “popularity”. But I have no idea what the chances of convincing one of those ADs of being responsible for taking that kind of chance.

You bring up a great point. It is very odd that those top 10 women’s D1 teams don’t have men’s volleyball. Especially with that built in fan base. I’m not saying that all those women’s fans jump over and would watch every mens game but even if half came that would be quite incredible. And these top 10 universities you would think would have the money to add a men’s team. And I agree with the previous comment about maybe the game is easier to watch because it’s slower and easier to understand. But one would also believe that if you watch the women play 10 matches you would learn enough to watch the men play and enjoy the speed and agility.

Hard to watch volleyball 5-7 service errors per set, pet team... Not hard for me. Do incomplete passes ruin football, walks in baseball, missed free throws? It is part of the game. I would rather see missed serves than all easy serves. When a server isn't going for it and still misses that is tough but an occasional mis-fire is OK. Personally, I hate watching women's OHs hitting 50% angle swings that get dug everytime. Yawnfest!

But when it starts to become a pattern, especially from both teams and/or in rapid succession, it can become really annoying. Oh and imagine multiple service errors in the 20+ point range... that's infuriating

Title IX has had an enormous negative effect on NCAA Men's Volleyball. It's the single biggest hurdle out there today. Look at the Big 10. They have massive fan bases and wonderful facilities and they can't field teams because of Title IX. Title IX isn't the only reason, but it's the biggest. It's a real shame.
